All in all we had 6 players from PA this year and 6 players who played in their first tournament.

Congratulations to Joe who played exceptionally well in winning the State/District Titles as well as the entire tournament. I believe he only lost 1 game (to Dr. Beckwith) and lost no rounds.

Congratulations to Joe Moore Jr. for a stunning performance.

Six new players, and a very nice webstream make this event remarkable and I wish all tournaments would attract new players and new ideas.

I can't wait to see games.
Actually I saw them, so I want to know them.

Again greetinx to all players and to the organizers.

Well done, my friends!

Congratulations to Joe, new PA State and District 3 champion, with exceptional victory and outstanding performance. Congratulations to everyone who didn't miss a party and congratulations to organisers of event

Many thanks to John and Jason for broadcasting games, it was awesome.

This is probably first time for almost 10 years since I moved to OH from PA, when PA State champion is also a winner of event. Way to go, boys. ACF must be very proud of everything happened in Carlisle this weekend.

BTW. What about prices ... or they were so big that you keep it in secret do not disturb everyone ?

Sorry I forgot write them down. Dr. Beckwith has the full crosstable and prize distribution. I think he left the hotel around 6pm so I wouldn't expect to see them tonight, my apologies for not getting them.

I believe first place paid $70 and 13th paid $10, the ones in between are a bit blurry.

I'm pretty sure total prize fund was around $350 with donations from several people.

Oh and I forgot to give an extra special thanks to Jay H. for donating a complete copy of Churchill's Compilation to the winner of the event.

Hello! This is J. Moore Jr. I just wanted to say I had a great time at the tournament. It was very fun and I will definitely compete in the nationals! The community was very nice and friendly and I felt very welcome. Some more online players should defintely come to a tournament. It is certainly much different and a lot more intense.

Some of the competition was very challenging, especially from Richard and LaVerne (both fantastic players) who pushed me to the edge in just about every game. It could have gone either way between us 3, but on this weekend it happened to go to me. My most memorable game was in game 2 round 3 with Richard. It was one of the funnest checker games I ever played. It was a great battle as it seemed the balance of power kept going back and forth. Many say I missed the win toward the end, but Rich most likely missed a win before that! The last round we both won 1 game. The game he beat me I made a critical mistake by pitching too early in a variation off the switcher. He took advantage and won. Other than that I dont think I could have played any better than I did. Thank you all for your kind words and I look forward to meeting you again!

I am totally confuse with math ..

What was an interest this year from "PA State Fund" ? If entry fee was $15, or $200 in total + contributions, it seems like interest was around only miserable $100 or so, 1% or less. Maybe I also missed a payment for conference room and interest was more ?

Anyway, financia deal this year for PA State Checkers Tourney was even more worse then in the past.

This is something which must be improved and fixed.

I don't know what particular CD he is using, but some of them I believe today can return up to 2.5%-3.0%.

Anyway, this is still better than let money being steal from bank by regular annual fees.

Congrats Joe!!!

I told you that you would get first or second at PA.

Another online checkers player going live and doing extremely well. I do hope that some of our games together helped prepare you because you give me some of the most trouble at Kurnik. I look forward to meeting you at nationals.

Thanks Eric. Yes, I spent over 6 months of intense preparation and it really paid off. You are partly to thank for that for taking the time to play me some of those longer games. Hopefully we both do well in Nationals!

The trust fund principle ($8,200.00) was invested in a 12 month CD which yielded a return of
.0025% ($20.53) at maturity.

The principle has been reinvested in another 12 month CD at a rate .0015% which will yield $12.30 for next year's tournament.

I understand that as of today the yield of a 12 month CDs has dropped to .0010%.

Alex,

I have to agree with you.

Had Don Deweber not agreed to take control of the trust money by placing it under the protection of The John Caldwell-Irving Windt Library of Checkers Inc., there would not have been any earnings for this year (as little as it was :( ) and the principle of the trust would have substantially eroded these past 6 years.

The following e-mail from The Trust Department of Omega Bank was forwarded to me by Don Deweber on November 2, 2007. I believe it backs up your above statement.
Subject: PA Checker Trust Info

Dear Mr. Deweber,

Per our phone conversation yesterday, here is some initial research to help answer your questions.
The final check was issued in the amount of $8,308.94 on 12/23/05 in the name of: The John Caldwell-Irving Windt Library of Checkers Inc.

The final fee from Mr. Rayback for legal services was $500.00, which was deducted from principal.

The trust was actually on a reduced fee schedule $324.96 per year, taken from income. Normal fees for trust accounts are $600 minimim per year.

All trusts file annual fiduciary income tax returns. Therefore, from 1996-2005, annual accountant's fees were deducted from principal totalling $1,245.00. An average of just over $130 per year for fiduciary tax preparation and filing.

*************************************************************************************

The following information relates only to the previous 9 years before it closed in 2005.

The market value of the trust at each year end was:

1996: $10,385.76

1997: $10,367.96

1998: $10,343.54

1999: $10,317.04

2000: $10,118.12

2001: $9,869.49

2002: $9,627.68

2003: $9,501.95

2004: $9,402.90

2005: $0.00 (closed)

The reduction in value over time is due in large part to market fluctuation and annual trustee and tax preparer fees.

I hope this helps you in answering the questions that are being demanded of you. Please let me know if you need any other information. I will send you copies of account's history since 1996 of which is summarized in this email.
