Ill fall tourn
Ill fall tourn
I do not see it in the upcoming schedule. Is there going to me a fall ill tourn, and is Gene going to run it?

Re: Ill fall tourn
I assume there will be a 101 but haven't heard this for sure -- Roger Doll usually runs the 101 (probably with the help of the other Illinois folks.) In speaking with Gene Ellison recently, the Ellisons have no interest in running another tournament again (and his mind seems made up here), so Roger Doll may be doing the state tournament as well.

I've been told Roger is now back home and JR now has it up on his site:P.S.
The IL 101 county tournament will be held on Oct. 1st and 2nd, 2011 at Marion, IL. Roger Doll was suppose to put that in but he is out of the country at this time. As you know Gary and I will be stepping down at the tournament.

Is this due to the issues regarding the last Illinois tournament...?
If so, this is a shame.
When this issue was visited here on the ACForum, it was made clear, (IMHO) that if there was any "fault" in the results of the last Illinois Tournament, it would be with the tournament "system" itself that was being utilized, not Gene's (or anyone else's for that matter) employment of it....I believe the testimony of the Ellisons, and all other parties who provided knowledgeable insight on the subject, proved this.......

Re: Ill fall tourn
I don't follow this forum closely, so I missed this thread.
I'm here are the fall 2011 101 Tournament and several people told me about this post.
Here are some facts out the Illinois 101 Tournament related to this thread.
Gene and Gary Ellison have chosen to resign their positions as officers of the Illinois 101 Counties Checker Association. Note that for past historical reasons there are two checkers associations in Illinois. The other association, the Illinois Checker Association sponsors the State Tournament.
Gene and Gary played in their first 101 Tournament in 1994. Gene volunteered to serve as President of the 101 Association in 1995. Gary became Vice President in 1996.
Gene and Gary have given 15 and 14 years, respectively, to promoting and running the 101 Tournaments. Gene attended 16 straight 101 tournaments. I've attended the tournament for over 10 years. Gene and Gary always ran a great tournament. I appreciate their fine example as tournament directors. Fourteen and fifteen years of active involvement is proof of their devotion to advancing the game of checkers.
I've had several conversations with Gene and Gary and have learned that they feel it is time to pass the baton onto the next generation in running the 101 Tournament.
I’d like to extend my personal thanks to Gene and Gary for their long years as active officers of the 101 Association promoting and running the 101 tournament. Thanks for a job well done. Please extend your own appreciation in your own way to Gene and Gary.
At the business meeting we elected these 101 Tournament officers.
President – Ramon Dionisio
Vice President – Howard Hoover
I kept my own Secretary-Treasurer position.
Please thank Ramon and Howard for taking on these responsibilities. We plan to keep up the Illinois tradition of well-run tournaments.
Gene and Gary will stay with us and play in tournaments. They will be officers-emeritus, giving us guidance and support.
The Illinois 101 Counties Tournament will continue to be played on the 1st weekend of October. Mark your calendars now for next year.
Also, as Vice President of the Illinois Checker Association, I’d like to extend an invitation to you to attend the Illinois State Tournament heard the first weekend of April.
Gene was not able to make the tournament this year due to some family activities. Gary is playing with us at this tournament. After 4 rounds Gary is leading and may be tough to catch.
Best regards in checkers,
Roger Doll

Re: Ill fall tourn
Hi Roger...............Its good to hear that the ILL Ty will continue ,its unfort in the scheme of things how it came about for the Ellison brothers and its a big loss to the running of the Ty, im sure.I can only ask them to reconsider but you know time runs its course and so do people.Ive had this experience myself in the past for a different reason which i wont go into and i have never run a Ty since so perhaps its dishonest of me to ask them to re-consider.Still i can see the replacements are good people and wish them good luck and i hope the Ellison brothers will stay on board in some capacity.

Missed it this year
- due to the World Title Match which eated all my vacation days. Will try to make it in April at State event. Glad to see new names in charge and hope Gene and Gary will stay in businesses of actual play and promiting the game for long time.
Their names are always associated in my mind with IL checkers.
When people say "Illinoic Checkers" - I hear "Ellison brothers" and when people say "Ellison brothers" - I hear "Illinoic Checkers"
Nothing change my mind about this.

I am playing checkers, not chess.

I suppose you won't be able to hold the tournament if too many people fall ill?
