Eric Strange wrote:The Following was a request by a friend to post. He is a very good player and checkers supporter:

Chee made a ranking of players’ performance in kurnik for 3move. Putting the ranking here, the ACF site, is certainly odd. Many ACF players may see this is bragging, about Kurnik players being superior. However, that was clearly not the intention. Those rankings are entirely his personal opinions and are obviously subjective.

Whether you play checkers online or at tournaments, checkers is checkers. Personally I am confident in my abilities as a checkers player. I know I am not the greatest and will never be. I don’t feel the need to prove to anyone my skill, online or offline, to anyone. In my younger days I had that urge, although I never did make it to a tournament. I can say that I am in the top 1% of the World’s population in Checkers, and I’m proud of that. If I go to a Walmart, I am pretty confident I am able to beat everyone in the store. Going to a tournament does not make you a better player. Consistent study on the game does. With the economy in its state, almost every tournament is a losing venture. I’d love to see only the top 3 or 5 finishers receive payment. They should be rewarded more so than someone who didn’t win a game. If you win Masters division, you should receive more than the winner of Majors. Recently Dustin Belcher donated his back to next years prize fund, something I think many other players should do. It is tournament winnings, if you get last, you shouldn’t win anything, except the enjoyment of playing high caliber players. It is very simple and logical. Sorry for the tangent, but it is something I haven’t seen discussed on this forum.

Tournament players and online players seem to be a different breed. Online people are looking to have fun. Testing their limits against strong opponents. When tournament players come online they seem to ask why they are having fun? Checkers is serious business, no fun involved. Respect your elders, they are better than you, son. You could never play on a real board. Condescension at its highest. think ACF members should not talk about the skill level of Kurnik players unless they have played against them. I also think Kurnik players should not talk about tournament players unless they have played against them in a tournament. Remember that we are all share a fondness in the game of Checkers and be civil towards each other.

A house divided against itself cannot stand.

For what its worth,
A.R.
I agree wholeheartedly with the last sentence and i have said as much before several times
a house divided against itself cannot stand.... strength is unity, etc etc etc

i also wonder why you guys persist in posting kurnik opinions here and call them rankings and then get all flustered when tournament players object to them....i thought you had your own forum for stuff like that....

and as usual you have to bring in the topic of money.... money has nothing yo do with this , nothing at all....
cheers

Hey Danny, I had nothing to do with that list and I never claimed to be better than Alex, I ever stated previously in this post that I got lucky for 1 or 2 matches and since then he has been kickin the crap out of me.

Nobody ran with their tail between their legs. I stopped making remarks based on a couple different reasons.

You can read them on http://cross-board.com, no need to fill up ACF with a bunch of bickering.

Danny, your checkers skill speaks louder than words... you keep making posts about things you know absolutely nothing about. I understand it is in your nature to be ignorant. Like they say where I am from. Don't get caught c-walkin in the wrong hood.

I don't understand your point?

My forum is only a few months old for 1... and for 2 I havent advertised cross board AT ALL cept to you guys and Kurnik because it isn't done yet.

but we have another example of an ignorant person who always has something to say but can't back it up.

But thanks for your relevant response John. You contribute so much to checkers community. GG

JohnAcker wrote:Just a few months, Eric? You've had the domain since 2008, have been pimping it here since at least November 2010, and the earliest post on your own forum (January 2011) mentions a complete reset of the forum. The fact is you don't attract people because you don't offer anything they want: there's no unique content, and really nothing there at all aside from a few comical ranking lists and people complaining about Kurnik. Advertising is not the problem.
The reset on the forum was like 2 days after I brought it up originally. I deleted the content accident trying to re-install it to another folder.

I get over 300 a day viewing the games pages John. The forum is not the manacle of my website. It is there because there was no checkers forum for non ACF people and I thought some people might enjoy it. I do all of this to help the game and cater to its players. Some post there and like it. Just cause you don't means nothing to me.

There it is..... my grandmother used to say, we all let out what's already inside of us when we are under stress.... an orange can only produce orange juice, no matter WHO squeezes it or how they squeeze it... it can never produce pear juice.

nice to see your true colours Nick.... let the organisers of the nationals know in advance they will be blamed for you not winning :)

cheers my fellow fruits
