I think i agree with Sune....................and a win is a win is a win.Time management is a skill and therefore part of the overall strategy. Dont expect any favours ofa your opponent.......in an all out war.Hmmm.I f you use your time badly then you must pay the piper.

ps......................even the GREATEST used tricks; when Henry Cooper almost knocked out WC Cassius Clay when the bell saved him,his corner man ripped Clays glove to buy him some time.....aCH SURE Foster and Allen an iRISH DUO sang "time it tis a precious thing".....................there will always be two opinions on this till the day of reackoning.

John

That is quite emotional language that doesn't really address any of my arguments. I could argue that running out your time could be a cheap trick to put psychological pressure on your opponent. I have thought a bit about this after some slight controversy at one of the last tournaments I played in and my plan for the future is to try and win as many games as I possibly can on time and be damn proud of it :D

I agree with John..... although time management is a skill....
trying to win on time from a losing position ( i am not saying that is what Miki did) is unsportsmanlike behaviour in my opinion...
it is not against the rules... it is against the spirit of the game (which is more important)
it is also unsportsmanlike to play out draws .... etc etc etc

cheers

Danny, I agree with your sentiments regarding rules. Both players surely have read through the rules permitted before adding their signatures? If the resulting play/ethics conforms, there really should be no argument.

I am not arguing, Bernard. (for once  ) I think each one of us knows when we have done the best to win fairly or when we havent and our conscience is the best judge of that... in the end we gotta live with our conscience :)

John congrats on 170 viewers thats great news... i could only pop in for a few minutes today b4 i left for work but i enjoyed my time chatting with yáll.
I won't get into the details of why some of them were cheering for "the other side"....
believe it or not i am trying to keep my comments positive whenever possible... (we'll see how long this commitment lasts :) )
I am not up to speed on world championship matches but i think this has been a great one and as exciting as they come, congratulations to both Miki and Alex.

cheers and good luck in the last day! (hope u feel better John)

What a great match we've witnessed. Addictive stuff. Congratulations to both Alex and Michele for a wonderful display of checkers, and lets not forget the team of people behind this event - sponsor J. Le Conti, Match Referee Alan Millhone, Video technition John Acker, and match co-ordinator Dr. Richard Beckwith. This has certainly elevated the game to new hights.

i agree totally Mr Devlin.... i just finished watching the awards ceremony and what a fantastic Match it has been. an unabated success. Congrats once again to the champ and to Miki for a hard fought challenge, as Dr Beckwith said there hasn't been these many wins in a title match since the 1800's .

And yes watching checkers played at this level late at night is addictive :)
cheers

Congratulations to Mr. Alex in defending his Heavyweight Championship of the (Checkers) World Title in a bruising 40 game slugfest. Congratulations to Miki Borghetti for going toe to toe with the Champion in a close and exciting match. Special thanks to Joe LoConti, John Acker, Rich Beckwith, and Referee Alan Millhone, and all those behind the scenes for all their time and hard work and commitment to the Grand Old Game. The Big Match in particular is addictive, just as checkers in general is addictive. A positive addiction for sure!

Congratulations to both players for producing an enthralling match, and a particular well done to Alex for his victory. Your records qualify you both as great players, and I'm sure the match book will be much sought after.

Really enjoyed the video feed, loved coming home at lunch and after work and getting to watch some of the match as it happened. John, Alan, Richard and all involved are to be commended.
