Re: Moiseyev-Borghetti 3-Move Championship Match
Greetings:
I wish to congratulate Alex Moiseyev for his defense of his World Three-Move Championship Title and Michele Borghetti for putting up a splendid fight, one which brought the match to a cliffhanger finish.
I also want to commend and thank John Acker once again. for his technological expertise which made the viewing of this exciting match possible.
In addition, I want to commend and thank all of the other supporting players who worked so hard to make this match a reality, including Referee Alan Millhone, Dr. Richard Beckwith, Joe LoConti, and any and all others who served and contributed in any way.
A job well done to all.
Best Wishes,
Dennis Cayton

Yes a fantastic job by all the ACF volunteers and everyone else that chipped in. It has done a lot of good for the game, and like Mr Cayton said you guys are to be commended.Dennis Cayton wrote: I wish to congratulate Alex Moiseyev for his defense of his World Three-Move Championship Title and Michele Borghetti for putting up a splendid fight, one which brought the match to a cliffhanger finish.

Re: Moiseyev-Borghetti 3-Move Championship Match
An article that i was sent by one of our italian checkers friends...
I translated it with Google Translator in chrome as you can see by the picture..... where it says 'english lady" it means english checkers ..... the word DAMA in italian and spanish is equivalent to checkers, checker piece and also lady.....
it makes it a bit awkward when u start talking about checkers and someone walks into the room .... as in spanish (not sure about italian) we use the verb EAT instead of JUMP .... need i say more???
(just translate this in your head and when u stop laughing read the rest of the post. Yeah Bob, i jumped that white piece on 16....)
this website is the main sports news agency in Miki's home town of Livorno, Italia
I like how the FID promote the checkers news everywhere and how most online and print newspapers run them.
I hope you enjoyed it...
cheers
Danny

Congratulations to Alexander Moiseyev on retaining his title as 3-Move World Champion, and also to Michele Borghetti on a hard fought match.
I must say that the live video streaming was most entertaining and made it an event to remember the discussions
on the chat of what Alex or Miki might play next was fantastic and I hope this can continue for future events
.
Best Regards,

I found this neat video of Michele Borghetti playing Sergio Scarpetta .... from the 9th till 12th of July this year ....i think it was part of Michele's preparations....(my italian is a little bit rusty)
it would be interesting to know what the result of this match was...
enjoy !!!!

Re: Moiseyev-Borghetti 3-Move Championship Match
Hi Danny, this was reported a while back on the ACF forum in a topic started by Ingo Zachos.
The 16 game test match ended in a 2-2-12 overall tie. If the link does not work, it can be found by General Information>Tournament Discussion>Test match Borghetti - Scarpetta. Topics are listed in order of the date/time of the last post, and the last post on this topic was on July 13, 2011.
I give the link because I know you don't want to miss Ingo's comments! --George Hay

Re: Moiseyev-Borghetti 3-Move Championship Match
Danny, no problem! Thanks for clearing up the EAT and JUMP translation, I've seen that several times with Google Translate.
A promoted piece in checkers could be called a KING or QUEEN. I prefer to think of checkers as gender neutral, in my mind thinking of a MAN as a SINGLETON, and a KING as a DOUBLETON. Those are the terms used by checkers historian
Dr. Arie van der Stoep....Ingo mentioned Tinsley had a practice match in preperation for his WCM with Oldbury (1958).
Another similarity with the WCM's (1958 and 2011) is that Tinsley made a bad blunder resulting in a lost game, just as Borghetti made a bad blunder resulting in a lost game. It could happen to anyone, that is why it's called checkers!

George, bad blunders happen so much to me ... that i wonder how there are any blunders left for anyone elseGeorge Hay wrote:Danny, no problem! Thanks for clearing up the EAT and JUMP translation, I've seen that several times with Google Translate.

Re: Moiseyev-Borghetti 3-Move Championship Match
Tinsley jumped into a three for one in the first game, but went on to win the match 9 to 1. In his annotation of the game Tinsley said:"to call this move a boner would be to dignify it."

Re: Moiseyev-Borghetti 3-Move Championship Match
Re Tinsley's 5-9 blunder: in researching for my latest book on the 914-s, I discovered that DEO's 2-7 'deviation' from pp just prior to this move was not original at all, but had actually been published in a 1950 issue of California Checker Chatter. If this has been pointed out before, I'm not aware of it.
