I found this old draughts article from 1930..... in it is mentioned a 'boomerang move' i am wondering what is a boomerang move.... what part of the shot is the boomerang...???
can anyone enlighten me ??? please

A New Zealand Boomerang

the following boomerang play occurred in the New Zealand championship tourney held at Invercargill last easter. The tourney was won by D. Calderwood, with G.A. Brown second and J.A. Boreham third. This position developed in a game between R. Botting (black) and Mr Boreham, who is a New Zealand and Australasian ex-champion.

Boreham's last move was 31-27, and Botting, thinking his opponent had made a mistake, at once went 10-15,17-10, 19-24, 28-19 , 15-31, without further consideration Boreham at once replied thus: 32-28, 31-22, 30-25, 6-15, 25-4, and the game was over. White won.


I had a few problems setting this up... but thanks to Mr Acker for helping me generate the FEN ...
it doesnt animate the moves but u can see the position at least

Thanks John the FEN was right but i had misplaced the /fen tag and i had placed it right at the end with the /pdn tag .... it had to be closer ..... i still dont get why the moves don't work since i have input them ...

I think it means that Black plays what he thinks is a winning shot, only to find White counters with an even better shot that wins the game for him.

Danny, thank you for sharing this problem with us. To think someone had the presence of mind to play this in an actual game! 32-28 the waiting move, brilliant, that must have been when the boomerang boomeranged!

In order for the PDN tag to generate moves, a result header ([result "X"] where X is 1-0 (red wins), 0-1 (white wins), 1/2-1/2 (draw), or * (unknown)) is required, along with the last move being that result.

Nesting the FEN in the PDN tag doesn't work too well. Along with adding a result header, I also converted your FEN tag to a header of the PDN. I also removed the commas to be safe, but I'm pretty sure I strip those out in my pdn parsing code as well.

If I get time over labor day maybe I'll add a problem builder. Something you can use to setup the board in a position, then hit like a "Record" button and I can capture the moves and spit out the proper forum code to display it here.

And Jason .... thank you so much for showing me how to do it properly.... after moving a little tag made such a difference for the man on 1 i knew for sure that the problem was of my own making but untill now i didnt know how to fix it....

I do appreciate that you are patient with those of us that think that a mobile phone is a technological wonder LOL ... i wouldnt go as far as calling myself a luddite, let;s just say im technologically challenged and i have a love hate relationship with it
i love that i can send emails from my phone .... and make espresso without going anywhere.... i hate it when my car starts beeping and refuses to start and opening the hood is as useful as reasoning with a lady (no offense ladies, just an ill fated metaphor .... and yes i know im going to hell for it ... it was a joke... trust me!!!)
