"All Checkers Are Not Round"--answer

Post by Mr. Checkers »

Several years ago the Wilsons Plastic Co. put out an interesting set of checkers for the Sandusky Ohio Lions Club (many checker tournaments in the past were held in this area). The checkers themselves came in different colors, but half of them were square and the other half was round. A nice checkerboard accompanied the checkers. "Checker Trivia question of the Day". What was the reasoning for the two shapes of these checker pieces? (Cont.)

For blind players to be able to identify the pieces by feel.

I've never seen one of the boards, but I have heard that the squares are dished somewhat to hold the checkers in place.
