Though many of you may have negative opinions about Eric and the online checkers community, I think the main question we need to keep in mind is, will his offer help the ACF and checkers. Even though there are so many more people who play chess and other online games rather than checkers, there are still 1000's of online checker players, most of which are outside of playok.com (kurnik) and Eric is on good terms with these other online checker communities. He will most likely grow a pretty big base of players at his checker site, many of which are even decent players. One thing I agree with Eric on is, if there is one place to attract checker players, it is the online world without a doubt. Because out in the real world there is hardly any notible base of checkers, except for ours. I say we give this a shot.

My opinion is if its good for the game we should strongly consider it,im thinking years ahead here and altho it may not be so obvious now it may in times to come.Lets join the FAMILY up again at the waist and leave no stone unturned in the search to bring checkers into the 22nd century. That is the challenge for us all are we big enought to do it ?........Yes we can.!!

What is the alternative i ask you ,hope that things get better hmmm most of us are too old ,we ve done our bit now its time to get the new waves of youth to re-imbellish new ideas ,without it we are struggling.

Plaes whatevr you do dont dismiss it out of hand without some thought or analysis.!!

i have been a supporter of this idea for a long time now.... and i unequivocally wish Eric the best of luck with this project....

however.... having said that..... i have more than a few issues with the type of people that surround Eric...
is aiming for the lowest common denominator the only way to save checkers???

by lowest common denominator.....i refer to the kind of behaviour we all know...
as soon as anybody comes in contact with them they would run the other way instead of wishing to join the ACF or anybody else.....
i dont disagree with the message, the internet is very important.... but i have seen enough now , i know better

cheers
Danny Alvarez

PS i am not looking for a fight either, i think exchanging ideas helps, we might not like or agree fully, but we can still converse and exchange ideas like adults

Danny, I was also an online player for many years, but I still joined the ACF. The same for some other current ACF players as well including Nick Addante and Nick Boatman. There have been several others too in earlier years. So I would not agree it is fair to say they all run away. The people you speak of are also pretty much all kurnik players I believe. Most online players are outside kurnik and have no idea what the ACF even is. Also, we need to understand that some online players will not join an organization that has been on the downfall and others still want to but are extremely busy with life. But there are people out there like me that are very inspired by the idea of offline checkers and would like to try it out. They just need to be found.

Joe, being found by people who are foul mouthed and ill behaved is going to hardly help....
people that think "using macros is ok" etc etc etc etc

need i go on?

You know what i mean mate.... but if needs be i can be more explicit.
doing something is better than nothing.... but .... (i'll stop before i get too negative)

cheers

No project is still on Alex, I will never stop trying to make checkers better for the old players and new.

I plan to give ACF their own play room still, I only had one person contact me to donate though with over 200 views so I figured this post was worthless and nobody wanted to help. I was going to try and find the money some other way maybe start recycling or something. People who donate are still helping for the same cause and my above post was just mis-worded, thank you for asking that question so I could clarify.

when I say I am gone I mean from ACF Forums.

I have had complaints the donate button on my main games page only loads a blank page, if you select a game from one of the books there is donate button there that seems to work for the people having trouble. Thanks to those who support checkers and its progress.

Very funny John,

I play more slow games than 1/0, I just have the mental capacity to play 1/0 stronger than you do slow.
I gave the updated ratings data to Alan MONTHS ago and nobody in the ACF has done anything with them??? I just no longer do the calculations or host them on my website.

Danny, your just a troll and you know it.

Anyways, just wanted to clear up the ratings thing. I calculated up to mid 2010 or to beginning of 2011??? sent all of the data to Alan and NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE WITH ANY OF IT. Why waste my time calculating when ACF obviously does not want updated rating?

just wanted to clear that up

I found the sent email to alan, Jason, and kim, with updated ratings as of May 2010
The only thing I refuse access to is MY ELO CALCULATING SYSTEM and those pages to my website, I supplied them all with updated ratings file. Once again poor John is wrong. Multiple people spent HOURS of time working on the rating and the ACF could not spend 5 minutes on putting them on their ratings page once our relationship went south. I feel sorry for you John, your completely misinformed.

Funny thing, given that as of August 11, 2011 you were still refusing to give anyone access until the ACF met your demands. I quote:
Eric Strange wrote: I am prepared to give JR access to rating system we created but I have a few requests first.

1. I can understand Chee being removed from forums but Josh really did not do anything. I would like him to be allowed back into the forums.

2. Danny and tommyc are the biggest trolls ACF has to offer and Danny isn't even an ACF member. Tommy can say feckin when insulting people? I would like both of them banned from forums for at least a month.

I should request a formal apology from Gober his incredibly unscientific and biased remarks about the rating system that is 100% scientific and not biased.... ITS A FORMULA!

Doing the first two will at least show me that the ACF still cares even a little bit. Get back to me as soon as you can so I can give J.R Access to my system and all of its wonders.
Hardly the attitude of someone willing to hand over the data immediately. I have discussed this with Alan personally, and you are lying through your teeth.

Whenever someone does things that they dislike admitting and they are called upon them.... name calling surely follows...

Eric, just because i am pointing out the behaviour of your 'compadres' .... is that enough reason to call me names???
truth is what i mentioned is the tip of the iceberg as far as their conduct is concerned....
but if belittling me here and in ur own forum makes you seem tougher and cooler..... great , good for you !
(like i said before best of luck..... and like i said before too, middle school finished a long time ago, this ain't a popularity contest)

cheers

I can't find original post where Tommy and Danny were named as trollys, today this valuable statement is only in quotes. I don't think censoring is necessary at this point - this is just Eric personal opinion and this opinion is protected by 1st Constitutional Amendment. It s very polite and gentle statement in my eyes ... though a bit controversial.

They may be not a trollies, or maybe only 90% trollies, not 100% - this is Eric opinion only and he kindly shared it with us.

We can discuss on this forum - if Tommy and Danny are really trollies or not. If we disagree with Eric - we can provide some arguments and prove and he can change his opinion or we can change our opinion. It will be very helpful to improve atmosphere on this forum and move forward.

So ... what do you think - are Tommy and Danny trollies or not ?

Eric, can you also provide a bit more specifics - why do you think they are trollies ?

Respectfully,

Alex Moiseyev
