Ratings Are Coming Back!

Post by Chexhero »

Hello everyone! Alan has giving me permission to continue with the ratings. Eric Strange is also being kind enough to allow me to use his rating system to continue with the ratings from where he left off. My hat is off to this man for putting his personal issues with the ACF aside and doing something beneficial for us once again. He trained me very well on how to do everything so it won't be a problem. I think the ACF deserves to have current updated ratings and that is my goal. I estimate that anywhere between 3 to 6 months from now I will have all the ratings updated to the present. I am honored to do this and will make sure everything I do will be as accurate and fair as can be. I will keep everyone posted on my progress!

I am Joe Moore. I joined the ACF last year so some of you may not know me yet. But Alan Millhone does know me and I have gotton his approval to take on this responsibility. So no need to worry.

John, in 2011 Joe was a winner of PA State tournament in June ahead of Richard Beckwith, in August he was a winner of USA National GAYP Major Division and in September in OH 2011 he tied 4-6 scoring more than 50% points.

Joe just started to play in real tournaments in 2011 and I predict him very bright furure and successful career in competitive checkers. I think it will be very beneficiary and good for checkers and all of us if he take care of ACF ratings.

Respectfully,

Sure thing John. I will message you my address. Just to let everyone know where I am at, I just finished putting in the 2010 GAYP title match. I have a few more months of 2010 and then 2011 will be here.

Technically that is Eric's decision, but I am sure he won't mind. I am going to post a link soon, so people can see their updated ratings up until the very end of 2010, I just have a few more tourneys to enter.

I wouldn't count on it. It's more than a simple "flip the switch" to change who hosts them. Unless we create an export process to export from his database and upload into ours (which would require another step in the process and more development time) I'm guessing that Eric is still planning on hosting them.

Ok, I talked to Eric about this, so here is the deal. Once I am finished with the 2010 ratings and we do the correct selected range, Eric will exract his sql database into a CSV and then give it to Jason to put on the site. The correct selected range means, putting players on appropriate lists, either list A or list B. Active players are on list A and players inactive 3 years or more will be put on list B as an inactive player. We can also put the ratings in the ACF bulletins for all to see as well. The one thing Eric will ask is that something such as "Ratings Supplied by icheckers.net with program written by Vadim Khavinson, calculated by Joe Moore" can be put in. I think this is a pretty fair deal. My goal is to have all ratings up to 2010 done by Monday, at the latest Tuesday.

Joe, when ratings up to date (Dec 2011) will be published in ACF Bulletin ? Next issue will be in February. Do you plan to release them once in two years as we had before, or every year ?

Remember, only small portion of ACF members (about 1/3) have access to Internet

Personally, I trust paper form much more than online and would like to see ratings in ACF Bulletin ... lets say annually in December issue.

Alex, I would say about every 4 months I would like there to be ratings in the bulletins. Once a year is not very much for those who don't have Internet. I will speak to Alan about his matter and see what can be done.

Sounds fair to me. If Eric or you could send me an advanced copy of the CSV file(s), I'll write up something asap to enable a quick transfer when you finish up the 2010 ratings.
