11 man National 2012.

Post by Alex_Moiseyev »

Here we are again - in Greensboro, February. Should I have a new opponent in the World Title match this year or no better cross aboard players on the planet of Earth and Tim Laverty is unbeatable challenger and cross aboard player #2 forever ?

I also like dates of event, February 17-19, because many great people have birthday around this time.

Several young guns will be there this year with aspirations of beating the champion. Beware the crosshairs or laser beams?

We will have a birthday cake cutting for birthday boy at closing ceremony!

What do you like about checkers?: Always enjoyed the game and the challenge it brings. Just you and your opponent battling your minds. Also, it's just a friendly game that people can just sit and have fun playing while communicating with each other.

Maybe someone will post full standings later. 3 rounds are complete.
We have 20-22 players in 2 divisions. Masters group consists of Laverty, John Webster, Millhone, Pronk, Salot, Teal Stanley, Michael Jordan (FL), and myself. At end of first day, Tim is in first with 10 pts, and I have 9.

I spoke with Ron King a week ago, and he sounded interested in coming, but we have not seen him (or at least not yet!).

J.R. Smith has colorful checker "Lowder" coffee mugs and laminated 11-man ballot cards for the players.

Majors Division finished early today. Congratulations to Mike Ross!

Masters standing (from my memory):

Beckwith 17
Webster 16
Laverty 15
Stanley 15
Pronk 14

Defending champ Tim Laverty's game seems inconsistent this tournament. Tim is also serving as referee.
Tomorrow we have one remaining round of round-robin, followed by 2 final rounds of Swiss.
Pairings: Beckwith-Michael Jordan (3 pts), Webster-Laverty, Stanley-Millhone, and Pronk got 3 off Salot
(they played ahead so Bill could leave early).

Very possible  Tim Laverty plays with John Webster in the next round which may give Richard a chance to raise the gap.

Congratulations to Dr. Richard Beckwith (OH) - winner of National Tourney 2012, and congratulations to two runners up - Teal Stanley (NC) and Ryan Pronk (VA) ! Congratulations to Mike Ross (NC) - Major Division 11 man Ballot National Champion.

11-man ballot map is growing and this time we may have our next World Title Match in the USA North area.
