TN Strawberry 2012

West TN Strawberry Festival is one of few state level checkers events which continue to recognise and respect World Champion title. They always cover my accomodation expenses for years.

Of course, doing this they don't make me richer and without doing this it doesn't make me poorer. Just respect ... not me personally but title i owe and game we play.

This year there is no exceptions. Couple weeks ago Larry Keen called me and officially informed that I can stay 2 nights in Regal Inn for free.

I am coming to Humboldt this weekend to play again in this event with tradionally strong overturn and high quality players on the east coast. Mary and Frank Davis are running event as usually and I personally invite everyone join a party.

Their lucnhes and door prizes are exceptional !

I understand Harvey Kelly had a good tournament and won a game from Alex Moiseyev. 26 Total Participants. The Stanley’s, myself and Tim Laverty planned to attend but last week circumstances foiled our plans, hopefully next year; however, John Webster did attend.

Move 10 for Red I would have squeezed with 14-18. Followed by 22-17, then 10-14 etc. And then 16-20 is pp line. Letting him have 13-9 makes it tough, not sure what you were planning. Well played by Kelley.

This points out a good reason I have given up on checker tourns. There is NO uniformity in how they are run. Here you have master class players(2nd Gene Ellison,3rd Byron Woolum,6th John Grisley) who play year after year in master class in ill tourns playing down in major class. Frank has let this go on over the years in the tourns that he runs( is why I no longer play in his tourns)

If it were not for the way frank runs a tourn, I enjoy the strawberry tourn as the promoter is one of if not the best in getting sponsorship and making the experience the best of all the tourns.................no I would say the strawberry if the best promoted tourn out there right now when you consider the money, location, free food, and accommodations.

this problem has been pointed out over the years and nouthing is ever done (lack of ACF leadership plain and simple). when you see a problem and do not fix it then you wonder why ACF if dieing, look no farther than the ACF for the answers.

Ted, all those players you listed in my opinion are major class players and the ratings also agree. I actually have an answer to your problem in a recent tournament post, but I think the players you are talking about were properly placed in this tournament. Sometimes tournaments only have two divisions, and some of the major players will get put in the higher division many times labeled master.

There is something wrong when those players i mentioned play every year in master class in Ill and then play down at the strawberry. Same thing happens and has happened at Lebanon and even at nationals. There is no current procedure or leadership in placing is what i am saying. Period. IF we went by current ACF rules then I would be playing im master as I won majors in ill, therefore according to rules, I would play in master class for at least 3 tourns, then I would be allowed to go back down if I had done poorly. Ya'lls current"champ" certainly would NOT like a person like myself playing in masters.

on your point, my rating would put me in majors where I belong. the way it is now i can go to different tourns and play anywhere from minors to masters.....This was and IS my point! there is NO UNIFORMITY. I am not trying to start anything as this is all VERY OLD STUFF. Just pointing out is ACF wants to stop the die off: then the ACF MUST start showing Leadership. and on that point is is TELLING that the pres. is totally SILENT on this and all other issues.....back to leadership.

Ted, If you won Majors in IL - you are eligible to play in Masters IL next year. Thats all about.

No deals with National or other states. It is well proven that different States have different levels, and TN State event some people call "mini-National" So, Masters in IL = Majors in TN.

if you'll be able to win "National Major Division" than you earn rights to play in National Masters. Thats it. It really doesn't matter - me or anyone like it or not, you won and earn these rights.

And one more thing ... Today there is very big gap between Majors and Masters in National because everything is stagnated and everyone plays in the same Division for years. If we have more rotation, both Divisions will be closer and it will be harder to go up - thats what we are trying to get.

Old system which Joe propose to re-animate, do not generate a good competitive atmosphere and is not very encouraging. Putting everthing on dependency of rating is very high risk.

Gray zone - evil creature: everyone can play where they want to play ... ridiculous !

Joe - you have my full support anyway. 20 century wasn't too bad and old system can still survive because there is no much young players involve. We are OK with old system for another 10-15 years.
