Foud this on a random website

Post by Patrick Parker »

I found it on a website of a non checker player and it took me a minute to solve it, nice break from work.

Red 1,3,7,12,k13,20,26,k25
white 6,10,14,15,19,18,22,23,27

kinda neat just stumbling across this out there
anyone familiar with this one?

It's by Derek Oldbury - No 17 (colours reversed) on page 125 of Move Over.

Terms are White to play and win.

Hi John,

It is my guess that it is red to move and win.

Patrick,

You are a breath of fresh air . . . a modern day player who has recognized the beauty of a good giant stroke. There are many good ones that languish in books by specialists A. C. Hews and Melvyn Green.

There is a certain exhilaration one gets from solving a difficult problem with a conclusive finish. In the checker world, I believe the feeling is topped only by composing a problem of that caliber.

I hope you continue to express your talent and appreciation of problems by participating in the Problem Composing Contests, both as a judge and as a composer.

Patrick,
Why did you stop at one? Was it a bad experience?

Patrick,
An old idea can be expanded or refined in new directions.
That's what composers do.
Please be on the lookout for such opportunities.
