Fred Reinfeld in his concise guide How To Win At Checkers covers the first six moves of the
Glasgow Opening with the usual 1. 11-15 23-19, 2. 8-11 22-17, 3. 11-16 24-20, 4. 16x23 27x18x11,
5. 7x16 20x11, 6. 3-7 28-24.
But for white's sixth move he writes: The alternative 11-8 is also playable.
The Glasgow Opening is covered on pages 59-61 of the electronic edition of Fred Reinfeld's checkers book.

1. 11-15 23-19 2. 8-11 22-17 3. 11-16 24-20 4. 16x23 27x11 5. 7x16 20x11 6. 3-7 11-8 7.
4x11 17-13 8. 11-16 25-22 9. 10-15 31-27 10. 16-19
{9-14 and red is strong as the pitch with 13-9 probably loses and after 22-17 red plays 6-10}
22-17 11. 7-10 29-25 12. 9-14 27-24 13. 15-18 24x15 14. 10x19 17x10 15. 6x15 21-17 16.
12-16 17-14 17. 16-20 14-10 {loses} 18. 19-24
{18-23 wins. I looked at the winning 18-23 first and for a long time. I thought at the time of the game it was a win. I then started checking other variations and then found this trad without fully reviewing it. I had spent a lot of time on the 18-23 so I thought this would improve my play but I was seriously wrong.}
28x19 19. 15x24 25-22 20. 18x25 30x21 21. 24-28 26-22
{We start the one minute per move after this move.} 22. 20-24 21-17 23. 24-27 32x23
24. 28-32 23-19 25. 32-27 19-16 26. 27-23 16-11 27. 23-26 {loses. 23-19 draws} 10-7
{11-8 wins. This allows a draw} 28. 26-30 7-3 29. 2-6 {loses. 1-6 draws.} 22-18 30.
30-25 18-14 31. 25-22 11-8 32. 22-18 3-7 33. 18x9 0-1
