Will there be any GAYP tournaments this year?

Post by MFulkerson »

I've been reading the tournament information and among all those listed I dont see any without 3-move restriction. Will there be any tournaments this year that are go as you please or both 3-move and gayp back to back? I was hoping this years nationals would be or at least the youth tournament would be however such is not the case. I'm still looking into hosting my own in Ohio but this will take me alot longer.

Mike,

The District 1 is GAYP, but not so close to us. Last year we had back-to-back 3-move/GAYP events in NYC, and then the GAYP National in Dublin, Ohio. The National alternates between 3-move and GAYP (as does adult & youth World Qualifiers, I think). I played in 3 GAYP events last year, but perhaps none this year, being the off-year.

Tournament directors who are GAYP fans (or even 2-move fans) are welcome to offer such events, even if just for the lower/beginner class.
Robert Ernest once sent in an interesting proposal to Missouri Newsletter -- All players register in tournament as either GAYP player or 3-move player. When two three-move players are paired, they will play-move according to their liking. Otherwise, GAYP is played for that round (even if a GAYP player meets a 3-move player).

The District 1 (GAYP) is June 24 (see ACF calendar for details), although it's right after the National.

Also, Missouri sometimes offers GAYP events too. I fogot to mention this previously.
