Re: route 66
Hi Jan,
Oklahoma has many miles of the old route 66 still in service. We may be the state with the most miles (not sure).
I travel on it quite often from Stroud to Tulsa.
Would love to meet your husband and friends and OKC is probably as good as any. Route 66 heads NE from there to Tulsa and I live straight east of OKC.
Wife and I would take them to dinner in OKC, at perhaps Cattlemens steak house which is quite historic in the cowtown area and near the 66 route.
Please contact me privately at waynegober@gmail.com and I will give you phone numbers ect. if this is desirable.

Jan,
Route 66 offers Jim a great American road trip and on a motorcycle to boot that is special!
I'm sure he's having a great time.

Thanks for sharing Jan, I'm sure Jim will have some great stories to tell when he gets home.

For Jim and his friends next "Great American Road Trip" they should consider the Lincoln Highway and there is a connection between the Lincoln Highway and checkers. In 1924 PARKER BROTHERS made a game by the same name to commemorate America's first transcontinental highway, going from Times Square in New York City to Lincoln Park in San Francisco. The connection > the flip side of the gameboard is CHECKERS.A brief history of Route 66:
It was commissioned in 1926 using as much existing roadway but wasn’t completely paved in 1937. It spans eight states and three time zones for a total of almost 2500 miles. Conventional wisdom says it runs from east to west, Chicago to Los Angeles.
Before Route 66 travelers used the Lincoln Highway...
