Do any of the GAYP tournaments count toward your rating?
Now that my son, or as many of his checker friends like to say "young Alex". has a rating for the Masters in 3-move does he have to play in the Masters in GAYP?

Re: Ratings
Michael, Alex H can skip GAYP Major next year if he does well in general in upcoming state events and study GAYP (Kears).
He reached the level where I can say:
It is now up to him
And if he decides to play in Majors - it won't be sandbagging

Re: Ratings
Michael, both Alex and John are correct. Last year Alex was not up to par for masters GAYP do mostly to his lack of publish play. I also strongly agree he needs a good source for study.

Re: Ratings
Alex and I have plenty of books to study; the right sources! It seems everyone is o.k. with him playing in either division. Since I will be playing next year too I am starting this week a time demanding study plan for GAYP. Alex and I can study and practice together. Since Freeman came in second in the WQT GAYP and he only lives a minutes away from us, and we play checkers with him all the time, that should help too. We will practice a lot with Jim Morrison who has won it too.
It does seem like everyone would be o.k. with Alex playing in either division no mater what his rating is. Is that correct?

Re: Ratings
I am the rating processor and can suggest where I think others should play but ultimately the tournament directors are usually still in charge for such matters. He barely won majors and is barely over 2000. I say right now he can still choose as GAYP and 3 move are very different. If his rating continues to climb after more 3 move tournaments it then would probably be mandatory he plays in masters even if it is GAYP. I and I am sure Alex M would be willing to play him some online GAYP games with a considerable timer to test his ability as an option if we are still unsure.
