assuming u mean 5 best online players vs 5 best offline players, then u were implying that they must be the best players in the world, unless ofcourse checkers is a game of luck all of a sudden?

"Those are their FIRST tournament. I never said online players were one of the best in the world lol! I implied that they are underrated and disrespected."

I do not know who u r referring to, but I do not underrate nor disrespect online players. I use to be an online only player, so I know first hand what they are capable of... If anything, due to tournament success in the past 5 years from tournament players, many offline players very much respect the skill level of online players. I still play online whenever I have time and the players who are interested in improving their game and taking it to the next level, I give them advice if I can (doesn't mean my advice is always right, but I try to help them anyway). I am always encouraging online players to attend real tournaments. Other than studying, its the best way to take your game to the next level.

The untimed set of the match would be won by the offline players but the blitz set would be won with a bigger margin by the online players giving the total match win to the online players :D

This is certainly very ambitious and obviously not a true statement. You probably never played online blitz games with good players.

By the way - what does it mean "offline players" ? Is Clayton Nash, or myself offline players, online or both ? Should I represent online team, as an Internet veteran since 1997 ?

Respectfully,

Blitz games? Way to stack the deck.

As one of your fellow "online players" told me the other day (after he got through cussing me out but before he played a weak opening against me), checkers is checkers. The burden of proof for that statement is on you, not us. If your skill is in checkers, then a match in "our" style (i.e. face-to-face games, with referees and standard OTB time controls) shouldn't be a problem. If, instead, it's in blitz, then there's no basis for comparison. I personally have wins against George Miller (online, 3/2 time control) and Jim Loy (2001 Nationals), two strong correspondence players. But until I can beat them in "their" style-- which I can't do right now-- I have no reason to claim I'm a better player.

64sqaures is you, John , correct ?

Maybe we can play sometime, any timer you prefer. My ID is matisyahu.

In Kurnik I am 100% sure that there are atleast 5 players who have never played OTB who can compete well in high majors or masters division. I guess this won't be proven until it's actually shown on paper.

These 5 players are: dreamhelper (only player I've seen to beat Alex M. in kurnik 2/2 blitz in a set of games), jolt, lsd_fatality(mernenary in VOG), lsd_brutality, skinny(ok, he played 1 tournament)

Then there are another 20 players who could compete in majors division.

When I talk about online players I am referring to these top players who don't have any/much experience OTB.

I think Alex Moiseyev can atleast vouche for dreamhelper being capable of playing Masters division.

He is good and very potential player. I lost hum few games on time, few - due to damn blunders, but couple games which I lost were real. However, I already represented here in forum my view. Games in Internet, on Kurnik or any other site, are completely different from real games. They require different skills, which I didn't have a chance to test while our 2/2 games.

We played GAYP games, but this year we have 3-moves National. If someone doesn't want to lose all 8 rounds (4 games each round, winner takes all points) - he/she must be familiar well enough with published play.

I would recommend to dreamhelper to play in Major Division this year.

Regards,

Alex

We're talking about the same Igor that got tapped out twice by me on kurnik here.

I'm also online trained, however I've been retired from checkers for over 4 months and also suffered from various health problems for the six past years and despite all this, still managed to more than held my own against the likes of Igor.

Ok, all jokes aside. Internet players are getting pretty tough. One time on yahoo, I used Kingsrow with 7 peice database and still loss a game to this one dude.

Nevertheless, WCC Lite at 14 ply will still beat any humans in the world including the great Alex and Internet experts like dreamhelper.

This WCC Lite only has the 5 peice database and a 200,000 move opening book but is rated well into the 2700s according to Ed Trice, which is higher than any human alive today. Unless your name is Tinsley, my old iMac's WCC Lite will most likely beat you down I mean I went through one of Alex's win against Ron King and WCC Lite easily saw Ron King's blunder at 12 ply in 2 seconds.

Ed Trice use to use his WCC program in online checkers and claimed to be a master player. Funny guy Ed Trice is.

Igor, by the way I'm retired yahoo checkers veteran Chee.

I've decided to play checkers part time for now until I start Mixed martial arts.

Jolt is good but he is not a top 5 "on-line/non-offline" player...those others you mention, i cant argue.

this is so not what i even started this post about

however i played ron king a few blitz games in person....and to show how
bad blitz can be....i won a game .....out of say 30
now if me and ron played 30 games timed at 5 minutes a move i would never win.... actually i would most likely lose 30 games....i think this shows that blitz isnt the best

Online players are typically better at blitz.

You are full of crap. When I visited Gil Dodgen in California, he had me play against WCC on a machine that was searching 400,000 positions per second. It had the entire 6-piece database loaded in RAM with a 128 MB hash table. This has a higher performance threshold than Chinook ever had!

Gil set it on 30 seconds per move, hid the analysis, selected a random 11-man ballot line, and had me duke it out with WCC.

Not only did I draw, I predicted 12 consecutive moves the program had to make to survive in the bridge ending that resulted.

Don't believe me? Send an email to GilDodgen@cox.net and ask him yourself.

And do me a favor -- stop broadcasting bullsh@t.

Spoken like a person with the inability to confront the truth. Perhaps you can write your own book:

"How Passionate Draughts Is Really The World Champion of Checkers And Everyone Else In The World Is Not Nearly As Good As Me And No I Don't Live In Make-Believe-Land"

Keep taking those purple pills, that's it, chew them up, now swallow, smile at the pretty nurses in their white uniforms.
