Here is what I learned long time ago: he likes to put pressure on others but doesn't like when other put it back on him.
I am playing checkers, not chess.

Re: WMSG Lille 2012
Alex might be right with the pressure argument. The Durdeyvs and the Italians are confident and mental strong players who can handle pressure and even counter pressure.
I remember there was quite a talk years back when the Durdeyvs started to play in UK events. Even not at their current top level their top player Mustafa won the event with 1 loss and 1 draw to like 9 wins. Yet they had no pp knowledge (GAYP event!) as Amangul was beaten on a Waterloo and Mustafa had fallen for a Goosewalk back then. A thing they overcame and steadily developed their pp skill to recent top levels.
Another big advantage is the competition... they do have great in house competition at home to push their level. If you look at some other players they unfortunate are not so lucky to have highly competitive opponents around them to constantly play and compete on a high level.
Playing on the internet is fine but I agree with Alex and most other players... put it to a test on a real board with a clock ticking. Thats two very different things.

Just the all of us together can improve checkers!

Pressure = points ,its nothing new,i been saying that for years.........its a no brainer in any sport or competition.Get your opponent out of his comfort zone and your looking at a "pig with a different snout" as they say."Old Irish proverb".

To Richard and Ingo ... where is Anglo-American Checkers ?!?!?!?! Did we participate in Lille or this is only online phantom on ACF website ?
Yes, yes ... I know - WCDF did a great job, no critics and nothing can be done better. Just small question.
I am also wondering - the fact we had 42 players from 20 countries in 2008 and only 20 players from 11 countries in 2012 ... any reasonable explanation ? Does anyone feel responsible him(her) self for this giant fiasco ?
How many players and countries we should have in Brazil-2016 ?

Re: WMSG Lille 2012
Dear Alex,
we had finished all our events before the last day, so we did not have to give away medals then. Note there is also no Xianghi or Chess on this report, as they also had already finished.
1. Coverage:
Here is a report on the medals (with a little error, as Amangul won Silver and Erika Bronce), plus an Interview with Miki Borghetti:
http://www.imsaworld.com/wp/wp-content/ ... _color.pdf
And here is an Interview with Irma Bejashvili:
http://www.imsaworld.com/wp/wp-content/ ... _color.pdf
Our results were on our results page:
http://www.chessarbiter.com/turnieje_wa ... 12/f_3187/ ,
on the page of the FMJD, thx to the cooperation with Jacek Pawlicki :
http://wmsgfmjd.org/?page_id=118 ,
and on the Daily Bulletin, thx to the direct cooperation with the chief editor Jos Jacobs.
We could also have sent in articles, but the events around the FMJD assembly took a lot more time then expected.
I have posted pictures of the days before the event:
http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set= ... 337&type=3 ,
of the first day:
http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set= ... 337&type=3 ,
and of later rounds:
http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set= ... 337&type=3 .
More pictures will follow, as I made a few more of the price ceremony etc., and as I hope to get pics sent by some of the players.
Also Jacek took photos from the "8*8" events, ie draughts 64 and Checkers:
http://www.daminator.eu/wmsg/foto/88/ .
The games are published on the WCDF games page, except for the last day and the 8th round of men, as we had no time to enter them all, but I will do that on this weekend:
http://wcdf.wz.cz/games.htm
BTW: Links to the games and pics were on the result page. Thx to some that detected minor errors, first of all Liam Stephens. These mistakes will be corrected as well.
Hugh and me and Sune posted regularly on this forum, and other places on the net, and John Acker also posted regulary on facebook etc. to spread the news he got from the results page and the WCDF facebook site.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. Why did we see a decline in attendance?
Alex, this time no accomodation or meals were delivered by the organizers.
All players had to pay everyting on their own or if they were lucky, had national federations that paid at least parts of the costs.
Among the notable absentees was also Mr. Alex Moiseyev.
In general, the 2nd WMSG had an attendance that was less then a third of that of Beijing. Checkers and Draughts did better then this average, but chess almost collapsed, and no FIDE official was there to attend, which is very sad.
It would be fair to compare the event with the last QT`s, and in San Remo we had 22 players and in Dublin 29, so it is not a bad turnout, considering that France has no national Checker Association to attend or support our organisation.
I especially see an increase in the standard of play in the event, as can be seen by the fact that Ron King only finished 4th, despite having proved his good shape 2012 at the US Nationals before, and Jim Morrison also did worse then at the US Nationals.
And finally the Women`s event was for sure the strongest Women Turnament in history, much stronger then any female QT we had before.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. Was it a Fiasco?
We also had regular boards and pieces (many players and federations that are not yet WCDF members asked to buy them or actually bought them), electronic clocks, WCDF posters and flaggs, pairing software (laptop), table cards, referee shirts with WCDF logo and badges with the names of the officials, printed rule books that we gave away for free to interested federations or players etc...
We brought this equipment and PR articles in our own luggage, as we had no partner federation in France that could provide anything at all.
I agree we can do even better, but only with better conditions like mainly an affiliated federation or better cost coverage by the organizers and if we had only known earlier that it would be in Lille and not in London, Manchester or Cardiff we could have done better this time.
I see no fiasco, but indeed for the 1st time the WCDF did all the organisation on their own, and yet it was a good event. If we would have held a youth event I am sure the number of participants would have reached the mark of 30 players this year, never seem before in any QT, except Beijing.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4. Rio 2016
In Rio 2016 it will be harder, as there is no affiliated Checker federation, and the flight costs are much higher for the equipment we need.
But we have a stock of equipment now, gained some expirience, and we have won new potential members for the WCDF. And, provided there is no change in the venue as we witnessed this time, we have more time to start organizing.
My prediction is that we will see a better attendance in the Women event and at least the same in the Men event. Maybe a team event of teams of two players could be held in rapid format, so that we could increase our time in the WMSG and we could seriously think of holding a youth event like Go did.
But crucial will be the support of the local organizers and possible cost coverage. With the same conditions like in Beijing, I am sure we can get 50 players easily, without it we can get about 30. We would have had more then 50 players this time with the same cost coverage.

Borghetti Interview:
What do you see as your best ever result?
Playing a blind simultaneous event against 23 draughts
players. I won 17 games and drew 6.

Re: WMSG Lille 2012
No, he could have played at the WMSG like he did in 2008. In case he would have won like in Beijing, the 2nd placed would have been the official challenger.JohnAcker wrote:I may be wrong on this, but I believe the current WC is not allowed to enter the WQT. ....
But you are very right on the second point, no doubt. It is a long way , and an expensive travel. And that is the reason why Beijing had a higher turnout. There no accomodation and meals had to be paid, which is the main part of the travel costs for most. But that is the main explaination of the lower turnout, nothing else.
And you are very right on the assumption that any prediction on the WC Match 2013 is more a guessing game then anything else.
