VA Open 2012.

Post by Alex_Moiseyev »

Once Sport Accord event in Beijing, China cancelled - I've got some extra vacation days and can attend AL, NC and VA.

Who will be in Bedford and what turn we can expect this year ?

Should we name Bedford as "Little Lille" ? :D

Alex, has this event been cancelled? I tried finding something about that on google but could not. What news do you have about it being cancelled?

Not for public discussion. As of now there is still a chance it can be change and/or reverse.

Alex,

I'll show up at Bedford if you will. And, if you have time, I may show you a problem that you can't solve.

I would hope the young guns of Virginia would also come; namely Messrs. Pronk, Weddle, and Habgood.

We can always count on invaders from North Carolina as well.

Is it a deal?

Alex, I called and talked to Paul Davis today, we had a nice chat. He seems to be doing well (turned 93 years old Apr. 21st) I told him that you were talking about attending the Virginia Open and that he should go so that you would have some competition, he laughted. Very nice man!

Bill, thanks for your generious offer. Saga with Beijing event (December) is in progress. Many thanks to our new WCDF President Richard Beckwith who seems saved this event for us and I am coming here along with Lubabalo, Michele and Ron (listed in alphabetic name order :D ).

Now I have to be very careful and count all my vacation days in order to stay away of shortness. I have to learn more about dates, event schedule and my vacation schedule.

Along with financial problems, one of the reason I didn't play in Lille - reserve more time for Beijing. I am in good shape so far but still need to go with Paul to campus of few colleges where he wants to apply.

I also should defend my 11 man ballot world title in match with Richard Beckwith which should be played around Columbbus Day weekend in Cleveland (another at least 1 business day). On Saurday we'll play in CPL (Cleveland Public Library) and rest of match will be played in Roadway Inn in Medina.

So ... my vacation for the time now is the only problem I can't solve fast and easy :D :D

Alex,

I hope you didn't misunderstand, Don't expect Mr. Davis to be there, I was just joking with him about his coming. I told him he should go and surprise everyone. I don't think he has a way to easily get there. It would be someting if he could attend. I don't think he has played in a tournament for a very long time.

Since 1999 VA State, September 10-12, Danville I beleive where I played with him opening 9-13 22-18 11-15. He was confused with order of moves at earlier stage and ran out of moves.

I also tried to encourage WCDF to give him GM title for his accomplishments in the past but don't know if they did it or not.

Mr. Davis is a very kind gracious sort of fellow and very worthy of our respect and certainly, I believe, deserving of such recognition by the WCDF.

See you there , Bill ! You can start your plans ahead.

I plan to leave on Thursday after work around 4-5 PM and come to Bedford around 11-12 PM.

If directors and organisers of VA State Checker Tourney decide to make me complimentary room - there will not be any objections on my end :D

It will be my 3rd participation in VA State. Before that I played in

1997, Danville, September 12-14
1999, Danville, September 10-12

13 years ago ... like yesterday :D

I implored them to give Mac Banks and Geo Miller MGM status 5-6 years ago ,but its not forthcoming. Perhaps with the new regime in now they may take a more practical and sensible approach ,like its as if its costing them anything. Quite riduculous really.

Just to clarify the above; it was 1979 U.S. GAYP National Champion Paul Davis of Rose Hill, VA that Alex was speaking of. Mr. Davis was also 1988 U.S. National 3-Move Champion.
