Hi Lindus,
I note in your reply to Tommy that your health is not as one would wish it to be. I am sorry to hear of this, and possibly time and todays' wonder drugs may improve your condition. Please correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that you are the current holder of the English championship, having won it on consecutive attempts. A remarkable achievement on its own. If memory serves me correctly, you also achieved a runaway victory in the Irish Intermediates championship in the late 70's. Along with the other numerous tournament wins you have achieved over yor wide ranging playing years, I find it unbelievable that the Welsh Draughts association only ever selected you one one accassion. A gross oversight by the WDA in my opinion. Lindus , the point I was making in my post was that the Welsh players in general have never embraced the Home Internationals. They have always seemed to have dragged their heels on this, nor do they support the Scottish and the Irish tournaments as in years gone by. Many years. They only seem willing to muster a team if the tournament is held on their home soil. This to me is wrong. For the home internationals to work, everyone has to put the shoulder to the wheel, and be seen to put the shoulder to the wheel!

"consecutive attempts". Surely winning and retaining is correct!

Hi Bernard,

I find it impossible, having searched my heart and soul, to disagree with a word you have said about the Welsh players dragging their heels in the events to which you refer. It is a sad thing indeed that the Welsh team was not represented at this year's Home International Tournament.

At the Home International tournament in Morecambe in 1994 only four Welsh players turned up, being my late father, Chris Saxton, Bryn Luke and myself!

Irish players have always supported the game wonderfully and continue to do so. Well done to you all.

Best wishes always,

Lindus.
