Hi Jan,

I think the answer to your question is that throughout the years there have been automatic selections for the Welsh team to play in the Home International Matches, such as Dafydd Roberts, Terry Thomas, John Jones, John Morgan, Nigel Proffitt, Brian Quinton and Dafydd Williams. As these fine players form the main team of eight, which I think is the minimum required number to form a team, there would be no need to search for any additional players. In researching my records I see that I was picked to play when a mere youth (I was about seventeen years old) and in 1990 at a time when Wales could only put a team of four together.

I am certainly not going to ask if I can play on the team as this would be like begging! If asked to play I certainly would do so. The last time I was asked to play was approaching a quarter of a century ago and that was only due to there being a chronic shortage of players!

In conclusion I might add that no Welsh player in the history of the game has played in as many major tournaments as myself. The only player who comes close to my record is my late father. In light of this evidence I think it unlikely that I would have refused to play for Wales if I had been asked.

I cannot, of course, speak for others and so I will not advance any suggestions as to why there was no Welsh representation at this year's Home International. All I can say is that I hope Wales will be represented next time and that I will be happy – if selected – to play.

Best wishes,

Lindus.

Sorry Lindus, i dont think there should be an automatic selection in representing your country. It should be the best playing, not having an automatic right to play each year. And you are clearly the best. This needs to be addressed.
