Thanks for keeping us updated John and I'm sorry to hear that you are feeling ill. I hope you feel better soon.
I see that they are now playing round 6. The result of Mark v. Alex will be interesting.
The best to you..."Pal"

Looks like Alex didn't need the 3 bye points from round 7 having it wrapped up with 21 points going into that round, a first place tie anyway.
1st place Moiseyev, Alex.....24 points
2nd place Cowie, Louis.......21 points
3rd place Sokolovsky, Mark..18 points

Rich Beckwith and surprisingly so. He must of had a terrible tournament. Congrats to Alex who had a dominating performance.

Re: Ohio 2012
My performance in Medina 2012: 9 wins, 3 draws. According my updated rating, no polints added or lost - just average, anticipated outcome
and nothing significant. In order to improve rating I had to win 10 or more games out of 12.
Dr. Richard Beckwith didn't do well at all in Lille and the same thing happened in Medina which just proves once again that level of USA State tournaments is not far behind (often - ahead) than WCDF Qualify Tournaments.
I am affraid I have to win all games in VA State Tourney to support my rating ... but maybe this is still not enough with this magic formula
This is probably first time for many years when we didn't have gusets from other states ... though still were able to manage 8 participants.
Mark Sokolovsky seriously improved since he played last time in real events previous year ... perhaps due to some books I gave him and he read and study which helped him to improve his game understanding and cross aboard skills. This time he bought (per my recommendation) "Basic Checkers" and I also suggested him Kears Encyclopedia (it wasn't in stock at the moment). I seriously suspect it was probably last time when I had a chance to win both games against him.
Steve Holliday proved and retained again his title of "best and longest OH B class player"
Many thanks to John Acker who performed 1st time duties of referee of OH Sate Tourney even been not in perfect health conditions.
And ... yes, I played INFERNO against Louis Cowie, 25-22 & 24-19 attack, and we both played 14-17 at critical moment but I was lucky to win with white.
Sincerely yours,
Alex Moiseyev

Re: Ohio 2012
It is hard to gain points in the rating system when the competition you play is 200 to 600 below you, but that is not the systems fault, that is a case of no separate classes due to lack of players at Ohio State.

Re: Ohio 2012
Thanks Pal. Rating system says that it was an easy tournament for me where I am far ahead of anyone and should easy win an event. But in fact, until I won my round (6th) against Mark Sokolovsky at the end of tournament, everything was in clouds.Palomino wrote:Congrats on your win Alex..."Pal"
In my games with Mark I was a little bit lucky with opening, 10-15, 21-17, 6-10 whcih has somehow a good scope, not critical enough and allows chances for both sides.

Re: Ohio 2012
I was impressed with Mark's results you may remember that I met him in Cleveland and gave him a lift in my car when the library closed for the day and you and Borgetti had to go to the Agora Theater to finish that day's games. (He had parked his car several blocks away.)
