Re: Welsh Open 2012
Thx to John Reade, who sent me the cross table.
The tournament was won by Walter Celani of Milano, Italy.
It was his 2nd major title, after winning the 2011 German Open.
Congratulation Walter
A close 2nd was Lindus Edwards, the Welsh national Champion.
Third place to England, as Tony Boyle managed to get the bronce medal
Congratulations to John Reade & John Morgan
and the Cymdeithas Draughts Association for running this traditional GAYP event.
I wish I could have been there

Re: Welsh Open 2012
Congratulations to Walter on a tremendous performance, scoring 9 wins, 0 losses and 4 draws (22 points) and taking the Welsh Open Championship. Walter is not only a wonderful checker player with crossboard ability of a very high order but a most likeable gentleman. It was a pleasure and an honour to receive him at our tournament.
As defending champion I poured all I had into my games with 8 wins, 0 losses and 5 draws. But Walter played incredibly well and deserved the title. If I could play one tenth as good as the champion I would be delighted.
Unfortunately several top players as Liam Stephens, Danny Oliphant, Colin Young and the Welsh number one Dafydd Roberts did not attend this year's event. We hope to see you back next year!
Many thanks to Dr John Reade for running the event so wonderfully well as is always the case. Many thanks to John Morgan for all the fine work he did and another big thank you to John's wife Ruth for all the fantastic meals she provided and which we all enjoyed immensely.
I was delighted to see Gordon Mills attending this year's event as he is one of the top Welsh players. I was deeply moved when Gordon told me that I might be selected to play bottom board for Wales in the counties matches next year if they are a man short. This meant more to me than I can say here. Thank you sincerely Gordon. All I can say is that if I am selected I will do my best not to let you down.
Thank you Ingo for that report. It certainly would be nice to see you at next year's Welsh Open where you would receive a very warm welcome.
Best wishes,
Lindus.
