GM and IM
GM and IM
Since class "A" checker players can hope to reach GM or IM status,is it possiable for a class "B" player to reach GM or IM IN Class "B" ? I would like to be a GM someday and at my age [77] i am running out of time.

Do not think it would be possible if you are not playing against other gm and masters. If you are beating the snot out of class B players then it would be mandatory you move up in the higher division. That is what I think anyway.

I don't know what the requirements are and how one becomes one.
Re: GM and IM
I will vote for any candidate for an 'ACF' office who supports the granting of GM or IM titles for class 'B' players.

I don't think so. I propose this idea since 2003 and still no progress.Michael Holmes wrote:Can the ACF start issuing titles?

Re: GM and IM
Perhaps the same flawed criteria that the WCDF uses should not be used?
I even believe they changed their rules one time to include people (I think the top 10?) that are really not GM's. It's hard to say what their next list will look like. Will the criteria be different?
Our state tournaments, especially the ones with any WCDF winner or World Champion, should hold more weight than what they do in the WCDF.
I have some ideas but would love to hear from others. With Joe and others updating the rating list regulary I think a good start is using the rating list. Obviously since that goes up and down then tournament performance should be another criteria. Perhaps the number of rounds, not necessarily the number of days (typical national is longer than say a Tennessee tournament), should be considered, etc.

Re: GM and IM
actually if you come in second or third in in any national tournament within 4 years then you also get the GM title .I think there might be a couple of more rules to that but obviously it means you don't need to win .

Re: GM and IM
If you look at this old ratings report at page 6 the criteria are mentioned
http://www.wcdf.net/WCDFRating08.pdf
Basically you need to achieve a certain amount of points relative to the average rating of the event.
