This applies for GM, IM and CM - look at the different columns in the table on page 6 - you need lower percentage to get CM than IM or GM etc.

Was there an exception to the title award for the first China Checkers Event ( I thought the top 10 was given the GM title )?

Dear Checkers/Draughts fans,

there is a norm table that the WCDF uses for title awarding, that can be seen for instance in the very first rating report:

http://www.wcdf.net/WCDFRating01.pdf

In general, a player needs to fulfill two norms within five years to achieve the title, and a rating of 2300 (GM), 2200 (IM) and 2000 (CM) at least once within these five years. One of the norms should be a 3-move norm.

Also, a win of a World Championship Match or a Qualifier is sufficient to become GM.

Anyone finishing in the Top 3 of a QT also has a "automatic" GM norm, even if he does not match the norm requirements from the table mentioned above.

For an IM -title scoring 50 percent or better in a QT is an "automatic" norm, and who finished Top 3 gets the IM title automatically.

For the 2008 WMSG a Top 10 finish was rewarded with the GM title, and 50 percent or better with the IM title.

For the 2012 WMSG a Top 3 finish was rewarded in with the title, and 50 percent with the IM title (ie this time only one norm would suffice).

The ratings however suffered from a deflation, so within the next time a new norm table with reduced requirements established.

So far we had not sent any Diplomas to the title holders, but within early 2013 certificates will be sent at least to any GM for free, and any IM and CM may ask for a certificate if the player or his federations cover the costs.

Yes, if your not good enough to play in masters, why would you get a masters title?

On another note, I asked igor what it takes to get a master status. He told me you just need to finish in top 50% of a world qualifier.

why does it have to be a world quili? the world ratings was interduce in 2007 and there where grand masters on the list way before they had WQ. i am lost.

It doesn't have to be a WQ it can be any tournament - you get high enough number of points relative to the average rating at the tournament and you earn a cm/im/gm norm.

Has it been a couple of years since the last rating update? Is it going to be updated in 2013?

Last I heard, Ingo Zachos recently graciously took over WCDF ratings (given the problems of getting a new update) and is working on it now.
