Poetis revisited.

Post by tommyc »

Re-visiting wee story /poem written to remember the Ron King- Richard Beckwith WCM....in 2010

ANSWERS ON A POSTCARD.

ON ONE SIDE SAT THE KING,
ON T,OTHER SAT THE DOCTOR
IN THE MIDDLE WAS THE PRESIDENT,
ALL LOCKED FOREVER AFTER.

THE OCCASION WAS IMPORTANT ,
AS WELL YU MIGHT HAVE GATHERED
THE BOARD WAS IN THE CENTRE,
THE CLOCK IT TICKED,.. UNBOTHERED.

THE MOVEMENT OF THE PIECES,
SOON PAINTED……. PRETTY PICTURES
OF LANDSCAPES OR FORMATIONS,
OF SOME GENERALS PREDICTIONS

AND AS THE BATTLE EBBED AND FLOWED,
ATTACK ,DEFENCE , TOE TO TOE
HEAD TO HEAD AND LIMB TO LIMB,
EACH THINKING UP EXHAUSTING BLOWS

TWO WARRIORS HAVE COME AND DARED,
CHEMICALLY BOTH WELL PREPARED
TONED AND CHAMPING AT THE BIT,
TO SLUG IT OUT ……WIT TO WIT.

FIGHTING FOR THE UPPER GROUND ,
OR BRAGGING RIGHTS ANOTHER TIME
NONE PREPARED TO FROWN OR WINCH,
NO... OH NO NO,….. NOT AN INCH.

WILL THE KING STILL BE KING,
AFTER THIS ADVENTURE.
WILL THE DOCTOR INDUCE HIM TO A STATE,
WITH SOME LEATHAL TYPE INJECTION

AND AS THE PRESIDENT LOOKS ON,
…..AND NOT A WORD IS SPOKEN.
NO NICOTINE SHOTS REQUIRED HERE ,…
THE CONTEST STILL UNBROKEN.

THE DOCTOR MAY HAVE MISSED A SHOT,
TO PRESCRIBE A FATAL WINNING CLOT
THE KING IN RAGE ADJUSTS HIS CROWN,
TO PUT A WINNING MARKER DOWN

THE DOCTORS NOT TO BE OUTCLASSED,
GAME 22 DRAWS LEVEL FAST
HE NAILS HIS COLORS TO THE MAST,
FOR AMERICA AND GLORY PAST

BUT TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE NOW,
JUST TWO TO GO HE WONDERS HOW
HE CAN DE-THRONE THIS LEGEND KING,
AND WRITE HIS NAME IN HISTORY

SOON 23 HAS COME AND GONE,
SWEPT INTO RECORDS OF …….OBLIVION
ITS NOW THE LAST CHANCE SALOON,
THE KING LOOKS ALL ROUND THE ROOM

HE SMILES AND RUBS HIS HANDS IN GLEE,
OH DOCTOR DOCTOR "YOU CANT BEAT ME"
MANY CAME AND TRIED BEFORE,
AND IM READY FOR THAT MANY MORE

THE DOCTORS LOOKING DOWN THE BARREL,
AS THE KINGS FINGER TWITCHES FOR TO FIRE
ONE MORE CHANCE TO WET THE POWDER,
HIS HEART IS POUNDING LOUDER ,LOUDER

AND SO IT CAME AT LEAST FOR NOW,
THE DOCTOR BEATEN BUT YET UNBOWED
AND OFFERS HIS CONGRATULATIONS,
DISTRAUGHT AT SOME MINISCULE MISCALCULATION.

THE CHAMPION OF THE WORLD REMAINS,
HIS TITLE SAFE, INTACT, RETAINED,
WHO WILL BEAT THIS KING FOR ME
……ANSWERS ON A POSTCARD …PLEASE!!.

What do you like about checkers?: I enjoy learning more and more as i go. despite its alleged simplicity the game is incredibly complex and rewarding.

THE MEASURE OF A MAN.!!

The measure of the man
NOT........ what hes worth
NOT the color of his skin, creed
or place of his birth

BUT the words that he speaks
that come from the heart
and the light that he shines
…... into the dark.

The measure of the man
NOT...,the car that he drives
NOT the house where he lives
or how many wives.

BUT the family he loves
who care for him back
The measure of the man
Is a MAN just like that.
