Russian Checkers in South Carolina

Post by Darrin »

Hello everyone,

I recently learned that the African American community in my state primarily plays Russian Checkers, and I was wondering

1. If African Americans in other states play Russian Checkers exclusively, and

2. How did they learn this variation?

I read a post earlier where someone played in Africa, where apparantly the Russian game is the norm. So this begs my final question-

3. Who exactly borrowed from whom? Did the Russians get their game from Africa, or did the Africans get their game from Russia?

Thanks in advance-

Don't be confuse - they play POLL checkers, not Russian checkers. And not only African immigrants play pool checkers, but many Americans too.

Regards,

checker player
I am playing checkers, not chess.

Darrin for information on the American Pool Checkers Association (APCA), which has been around for many years please contact my dear friend Dr. Ervin Smith (ESmithLOVE@aol.com) who is the president of that organization. (Cont.)
