What happened after Nationals last year? I believe your rating went up nearly 100 points. Do you know why that was? Because # 1, masters included only high rated players, meaning division placement was used effectively. #2, ballot scoring was used. This allowed you to win almost all your rounds. Now, you put those things into place more consistently, your rating would not be dropping So based on those facts, it is unfair to just blaim the formula and system for your rating changes. It does not punish active players, rather it can be tough on those who are only playing much lower rated players, of course that is not your fault. Your rating is not the only that has decreased over the years either. Higher rated players went down, lower rated players went up, making for a more competitive system, that is the way it works. Among active players who do play consistently, you are way ahead of everyone. That is proof the system is doing something right.
Joe, think about ... you just simply agreed that the process of stailization is still in progress. We can only discuss if it's done 40%, 75%, or 95%. My opinion is - due to small number of events and active players, we are still around of 50% stabilization. If you and ACF think it is enough to use it for more serious decisions (pairing, Divisions etc) - it's OK.

You also agreed that in high level events with strong players it works better for me.

I drewed round with Chuck Freeman and don't see anything wrong with this. But this hardly impact my rating because his rating is lower expectations. And same thing happen over and over in local states events when I play with with people at all levels.

YES, scoring per ballot system which I proposed 6-8 years ago and which was adopted recently in National, is much better, more accurate and matching to real 3-moves spirit.

Good luck to everyone. Once I continue to e active - it will make all my opponents happy (but not me!) with rating changes. So be it !

Liam, it consistent with what I said. This toy (rating) is addictive haha ! People pay to it much more attention than it's ptobably desire. But I really don't want when later (or maybe now ?) people use all these numbers for any conclusions or speculations.

As of today - if your rating is growing, it simply doesn't mean you improve, it only means that your rating is lower than it suppose to be. :D

Joe / Eric, good luck in your journey !

If it cheers you up Alex, you at least have a much higher rated Borghetti than before to play 40 games with. Win all 40 games and you may get back your 2600 rating :)

Alex, don't blame your lack of performance on the ratings :)

Stop getting beat by John Webster and letting provies draw you and your rating would go up.

Because you are higher rated than almost everyone you play, that is how it goes. In this fact, the rating systems is functioning 100% properly and I would say that 90% of the ratings are stabilized at this point. If you look at the active players on the rating list and where they fall, it is very accurate and everyone is very close, which is good.

In conclusion, sugar plum, PLAY CHECKERS HARDER haha

Well ... actually in TN I had revange with John. My 4 wins came from Michael Holmes, Teal Stanley, John Webster and Alex Holmes and I missed a win with James Morrison and didn't really play competively last 2 games with Michael Holmes. I also had 2 draws with Charles Freeman and Larry Keen. Thats a whole story.

As I said earlier - my opponents did not coopertate very well this year lol :D

90% or rating stabilization level is very optimistic vision :D And I read recently in scientific article, that in general pessimists live several years longer because they have smaller depression and disappointment when things in real life doesn't happen the way they expected.

Alex

I noticed an error in crosstable on NC site.
May not matter to ratings but I only lost 2 games to Jim Morrison.
The crosstable has me losing 2 games to Nick Boatman at the same time. Round 6
You may find, he actually was playing #5.

Thanks

Wayne,

I noticed the error too. So don't worry, everything was entered correctly. See these crosstables, which are correct:

The system can normally support much more than 4 rounds, but sometimes with a lot of players it helps to separate things out a bit to make the calculations easier.
