WARNING! INCOMING!

Post by Bill Salot »

Unofficial World Championship Animated Checker Problem Composing Contest #10 will be activated tomorrow, Easter Monday, April 1, 2013. It will run through the month of April.

Don't miss its fabulous four 4x4 foolers.

Experience the fun of freely finding fresh, fundamentally feasible ideas.

Vote for the setting you view as best, perhaps bringing fleeting fame and fortune to its faithful composer.

Wow! Five (5) votes in less than two days! That's a good omen.

What did the fabulous five think of Contest #10 as a whole? Was your visit worthwhile?

Contest #10 has a good 4x4 theme, or is it 4x4x4!?
The problems are sparkling and fun, and live up to their names!

I'm curious to know if there are any master players (like Eric or Joe) who could play them all crossboard (against the animation) without getting fooled more than once.

What do you like about checkers?: It is a game of beauty when played at a high level.

I voted for "Making it Look Easy" even though I felt "New Changing of the Guard" was the harder problem to figure out, forcing you to look 37 moves deep. I felt Making it Look Easy had a more array of ideas to it. I was able to solve all of them without any mistake.

John,

No, my e-mail address has not changed.

I received your e-mail and belatedly responded a few minutes ago.

My apologies.

Will you be an international judge of Contest #10?

John,

All an honored judge has to do is push the voting button for the problem he or she deems best.

The reward comes from the knowledge that you have influenced the outcome and perhaps helped make one composer very happy.

Or a judge might point out a flaw in a problem, but that won't be so easy because there probably are no flaws.

OK. No problem.

Who are the composers of the problems by the way?

Or are we not supposed to know until the winner is announced?

John,

The composers' names will be announced after the contest is over. We want you to vote for a problem, not for a composer.

You can review all of the previous contests, including their associated composers' names, by clicking on the "Select Another Contest" button at the top of the Contest page.

Do you have any suggestions for improvements?

Bill,

I've had another email message returned.

Looks like a problem with Comcast. They think my message is spam for some reason.

John.

And another! Could it be I am using some word Comcast objects to?

14 votes have been cast in Contest #10, and it isn't half over yet.

Not since Contest #4 have more votes been cast in a full term contest.

What is the attraction this time?

Contest #10 voting is too close for comfort. We need a few more voters to break the ties.

There is no need to set up a board. There is no need to solve the problems.

Just play through the animated solutions and let your instincts tell you which problem is best. You won't regret it.
