Re: Pennsylvania State Open Checker Tournament 2013
Joe, Thanks for update. August could work. That tournament, in fact, used to be held later in the year when I started playing in it in late 1990s, then it moved to June. One consideration on dates is that the Amish eastern Ohio tournament usually falls on a Friday/Saturday about that time of August, but I haven't seen dates for it yet.

Re: Pennsylvania State Open Checker Tournament 2013
August (3rd weekend) is OK but we have annual interest release from PA fund in June and also Don de Weber needs confirmation and prove that we have exact location and venue.
After we moved out of Grove City several years ago - everything started "shaking" and became unstable. We need a permanent place.

I think Aug 3rd would be a bad time because Nationals will still be going on, which I will be at. Is there any other time in August you would be available Alex?

Re: Pennsylvania State Open Checker Tournament 2013
I was hoping to participate in PA tourney before I moved to ND, but I can see now that that might not be possible. I have enjoyed the PA tourney at State College, Grove City, and Carlisle and was even PA State Champp one year because I was only PA resident at that PA tourney! Thanks for the memories and the many fine players I have met during my time in PA.

Jason has dates set for Aug 16-17 at the Days INN in Carlisle PA. This would fall on a Friday and Saturday. Will be 1 division, maybe two depending on participation. Jason will be posting the official announcement soon! Who will be coming?

Jason Solan is doing an excellent job of getting the PA tourney up and running. Let him know because setting up checker tournaments is not easy!

Just got a call from the venue. They have decided to renovate that week and told me they had to cancel the conference room reservation.Chexhero wrote:Jason has dates set for Aug 16-17 at the Days INN in Carlisle PA. I'm either out of town or all hotels are booked for every other weekend in August. I guess I'm going to look for a new venue that weekend as soon as possible, but if anyone else wants to host the event let me know. They claim the room is open August 9-10 even though a car show is in town (which usually means all hotels are booked solid), but I'm away that weekend so I wouldn't be able to help/participate.
Please let anyone you know who doesn't read the forum.
Thanks,
--Jason

I have to think about this nice possibility. Situation will be more clear in August, probably until last minute.JR Smith wrote:Also Crist Miller has his Mid-Ohio this weekend.

Re: Pennsylvania State Open Checker Tournament 2013
I received another call from the venue and they are going to try to put us in their other hotel, which is about 6 miles away. I'm going to stop in early next week and make sure the room is big enough and the location is ok.
If I remember the hotel correctly, it's a busier section of town with a lot of truck traffic.
As far as getting 15-20 attendants, I'm trying to promote locally and plan to use Joe's brochure around the area once I secure the venue again. This year we're attempting a Friday/Saturday event in hopes to attract a few Amish players from the Lancaster area. Unfortunately, with the Mid-Ohio that same weekend, that may not work out.
Since moving the tournament further east we've gotten more participants and (more importantly as far as I'm concerned) more PA/D3 participants. I'm hoping that trend continues to hold true.

Jason, do both - contact also with known ACF players and invite them ... NC players, IL players, TN players + personal invitation.Jason Solan wrote:I'm trying to promote locally
John and JR should have a list of addresses and emails. Maybe a small invitation post card and welcome email (free expenses!) would work ?
