The standings is not finished, because I only know the first three places for each tournament. That should be enough to determine the champion because the rule says the best three results are considered.

If I'm reading Sergio's chart correctly, it looks like it was cut off at 3rd place (18 points). So it looks like there were 23 checkerists who placed 3rd or higher in at least one of ten events!

Got it, thanks George. These CUP results must be publish officially and winner(s) must be awarded. Very good motivation tool and it will encourage people to attend more events.

Danny Oliphant not only attended 3 events, but finished 3rd in each of them - very stable, solid and consistent result.

First 3 in the European Cup are Danny Oliphant with 54 points, Shane McCosker with 50 points and Colin Young with 48 points.

As a one of organizers of European Cup I’d like to inform the Checkers society about this event. The offer to organize the European Cup came from Ukraine. Mr. Yatsenko – the President of Ukrainian Draughts Federation (UDF) - connected with me and suggested to unite all European national checkers championships in one event – European Cup. The main idea was - to give all these tournaments the status of the stages of the European Cup where all european players can take part. Depending of the place taken by a player in each competition he will receive the certain quantity of points. The winner is determined by the maximum score gathered in 3 tournaments. The same are doing Draughts-100 and Russian Draughts federations for a long time. Thus there would not be any new expenses for the organizers.
UDF asked me to coordinate all these tournaments as I know both English and Russian that is very useful for the participants of the former USSR countries which can join to checkers later. UDF offered to approve my Site http://home.arcor.de/checkers64/ as an official site for the European Cup. Here can be published information about all stages of the European Cup. UDF also offered their project of Regulation for the European Cup which was published on FMJD, WCDF and my homepages.

I liked this idea and agreed to be the coordinator. Dr. Richard Beckwith and Dr. John Reade also supported the idea of the European Cup. So in the first European Cup there were united 10 stages: 1.English, 2.Italian, 3.Danish, 4.Ukrainian, 5.Scottish, 6.Northern Irish, 7.Welsh, 8.Czechish, 9.German, 10.Irish.

As you know Danny Oliphant won the competition. He took part in 3 tournaments where he was 3 times the third and he got most points - 54. Although Shane McCosker won two tournaments, he got 50 points and only the second place. So are the rules. The third was Colin Young – 48 points. All results you can see here: http://home.arcor.de/checkers64/crossta ... an_Cup.pdf. Note that in the table are shown only those players who took part in two or more European tournaments.

WCDF has to take care about awarding and prizes for the winners: Cup, diplomas or maybe medals. Especially desirable can be such prizes as free trips to World Checkers competitions: QT, WMSG, SportAccord, USA National ... It can really motivate some european players to travel more in Europe. WCDF has a preference to meet a decision.
I can make some conclusions after finishing of the first European Cup which I’d like to discuss with Checkers society to make European Cup better next year.

• 1. I think that it will be enough to give points only for the best 6 players of national championships and namely: 6th place -1 point; 5th place -2 points; 4th place - 3 points; 3rd place - 5 points; 2nd place – 8 place; 1st place – 12 points. I’ll continue to publish first best 6 result of each European stage and standings on my site to make it visible for everybody.
  
  2. These points will get only those European national championships which are open for foreign players. Only Open tournaments will get the status of a stage of European Cup.
  
  3. I beg all European national Checkers federations to annonce Regulation for their Open tournaments with infos about dates, rules, accommodation, fees and prizes to the beginning of the year. So that all european players could know all costs, plan their time and decide where to play in advance. I will publish all information on my site.
  
  4. Open tournaments with higher rating and more foreign participants will get additional 1-2 points for the case if the players have equal points.
  
  5. If more than 3 women or 3 youngsters from different countries will take part in two or more stages there will be also established the separate Cup.

Unfortunately I had bad experience this year. No one federation sent me cross-tables with results. I even did not know about some events before they had finished already. I’d like to change this situation and I need the better cooperation and more support. I am also open to all new advices and ideas as well as to critic.

To my opinion there is also sense to organize the American Cup, the African Cup and so on using our European example.

Fianally, Joe Maguire won the Seniors ahead of Tommy Canning, who lost the title by losing the Wilderness.
Third place went to Sean Phillips.

I needed a win in the final game of the Wilderness 1 with the Red side to win the competition.I had several draws on the board which i could have taken but unfort a draw was no good to get 1st place so i played for the win from a weak position and it didnt matter when i got the loss as it didnt change to final standings.That said i fini runner-up last year to John Cunningham in Carlingford at the Open when i needed a draw in the final game to take it but overall having not played much the last few years im happy enough.Congrats to all who attended and to the prize winners and to John Cunningham and the Limerick club for such a great venue even [which was shared by the Irish Chess Open]it was a long drive there and back.A good time was had by all roll on next time.

The Inishowen Open starts Tue night [6rds] then its the Donegal Open followed by the South Donegal and the Tyrone Opens so plenty going here in this part of Ireland.
