At the end of the King-Scarpetta match the interest to Straight checkers in Russia is very high.
One of their young grandmasters just issued a challenge to see a great game/position executing a strategical plan.

I think this is a fantastic opportunity to attract Russian players to Straight Checkers, we all know how capable they are in chess and other types of checkers, most World champions were Russians.

But I need such game today, while their interest is high! Show me the page in the book or post the game with comments here.

I would nominate the following 3 games (in chronological order).

1. R. E. Bowen v R. D. Yates 1877, Cross 11-15, 23-18, 8-11,
Source: Boland's Famous Positions, page 60.

2. F. Kaiser v C. H. Smith (Date ? probably 1940s), Switcher 11-15, 21-17, 9-13
Source: Wiswell's Secrets of Checkerboard Strategy Game 27, page 96.
(Also played Hellman v Case 1963)

3. D. Oldbury v M. Tinsley 1958 British Open, Dyke 11-15, 22-17, 15-19,
Source: CTTW Opening 91, page 115.

You must realize I might not have access to those books, can you select from the books in the library?

1. Banks Scientific Checkers
http://checkersusa.com/books/straight/B ... ckers.djvu

contains a section with 50 selected master games from page 180 on.

I think they might be useful, especially game number 20, Wyllie - Yates, a game that decided the world championship in the very last game and the game itself was a tossup with winning chances for both sides for yery long.

2. Also Frank Dunnes "Draughts Praxis"
http://checkersusa.com/books/straight/D ... s_1912.pdf

is full of interesting master games, those of the Jordan-Freedman match at the begining are also very well annotated.

3. "Big League Checkers" by Willie Ryan

http://checkersusa.com/books/straight/R ... ckers.djvu

contains from page 4 the match Willie Ryan - Alex Cameron with very good annotations and from page 35 on the Ryan -Young match with sparse annotation.

the book

4. "Checker Kings in Action" by Wiswell contains the one-sided match Wiswell-Hopper 1951 with good annotations.

http://checkersusa.com/books/straight/W ... _1952.djvu

I think that these sources will do, but

5. "Americans Best Checkers"

http://checkersusa.com/books/straight/W ... s_1957.pdf

may also be a source for interesting, well-annotated games of the highest calibre.

I saw the 1985 Tinsley article on the OMOCH site, but it was hard to read, the reduced size made letters fuzzy, so I searched for the newspaper and cut the article out in three large overlapping pieces, with letters legible to read http://checkersusa.com/books/Magazines/Misc/Tinsley.pdf. I found the content fascinating, the author was able to portray the great champion in very feminine tones, a gentle giant, many of her insightful thoughts should be preserved and quoted. Perhaps someone has the actual text of the article? Or some retiree will take it as a project to type the text?

What do you like about checkers?: It is a difficult game that makes you think and work in logical manner. When you win, you know your ideas were better than your opponent.

Mr. Bob Newell wrote a good article on his "The Checker Maven" website about the Online checkers Library in his Sat. morn column. It would be good for all checker players and members of ACF to visis Bob's checker site.

Thank you,

I just added a Checker Art page full of beautiful images, here is probably the most famous one by Norman Rockwell
Image
I am planning to create a Gallery of images on different subjects - Straight Checkers, kids, history, fun, need your support and your pictures!
Someone suggested a gallery of videos - that is problematic, I prefer to have a local copy of every book, picture or video in case the link disappears like it happened with Tinsley/Walker video, but videos are hard to download and they take too much room.
