Tournaments used in Ratings List

Post by Michael Holmes »

Can that be updated too? As a past volunteer I do understand about finding time to do something that you do not get paid to do so I have not complained and please do not take this as a complaint. I am simply mentioning it in case it has been overlooked.

Unfortunately  - it was. I won 8 games and drewed 8 games in TN ty, but it wasn't enough to keep my points and they were dropped. I think my "mediana" for TN - win 10 games, and drew 6. And , indeed, if I want to improve my rating - I have to do it better, than just ordinary 10 wins from 16 games in TN Master Division.

In IL tournament I had even better balance - 9 wins, 1 lost, and 4 draws. Still didn't help much.

I should probably wait for another 10-15 years when more players will be in 2500+ zone.

This is impossible without serious increase membership. One thing gets another.

**********************************************************

Patric, I seriously suspect - only Master Division in TN ty was processed.

Regards,

Alex

i like your idea and would jump on a project to try and make that happen.... however there are people who do not have internet access and people who would prefer sending information through regulart mail.

Also, in order to be efficient, the tournament pairing forms would have to be universal. I'm not sure how close that is, but if there are some who do things completely different, that could be a problem.

A templated query could always be done and printed to send to those who request.

You are probably right about there being some inconsistencies on tournament pairing forms. But if these tournaments that are not alike the standard seem to effect the ratings in some fashion, the idea should still be accomplishable without much of a problem.

Hmmmm, maybe Tennessee wasn't rated after all, as I noted there were a couple "05"s in there. Thanks, Patrick. Will check on this, as well as getting an updates "rated events" list.

Why? If you r number one, and you draw ALL games, you lose rating points.
It does make sense to me.
If your expectations are high, it is harder to match them.

Ingo, in states and local events we don't use clocks. What does it mean ?

If (after first game) we run out of "round time" - draw usually is taken in second game. Also, we often have "social games" For instance - in the last 8th round in TN Mr. Burton didn't feel very well and 2 draws were agreed.

If I want to keep my rating, I have to play with full strength all games, I have to give up on any social things, my friendship with many players etc

This all is meaningless for me, and I am OK to giveup on few rating points, but not on other things which are more important for me.

My rating in TN was 350+ points higher, than average rating of my opponents. To keep it in balance I had to win 10 or 11 games, which is absolutely impossible - due to event rank.

I was always in favor to count a ballot, not a single game.

Dear Alex:

The ACF does not use an Elo-Based system.
They just calculate the won and lost rounds.
They don't calculate game-based!

So "social" draws do not matter for this rating.
The different scoring method is a problem for the ratings, by the way.
I don't know what happens if gamescoring was agreed.
Do they treat each game as a seperate round, or do they still use one game with red and one with white against the same opponent as "round"?

Any way, you'll lose points because you are expected to win a greater number of rounds, Alex.
The draws do not count in ACF rating.
Take a look at the formular!

Question for anyone who cares about rating: Why does your rating matter? Why not play for just mere fun and learning :?:

It seems the person would want to improve on understanding reality first. "Oh, I did well in a game with someone who I usually struggle with" => [I must be getting better]. Isn't this more efficient than assuming your rating based on someone else's rating accurately depicts your skill level compared to the other player's skill level??

if u play alex and draw
are you happy?

most people would say they have trouble with him
and he has a high rating

measurment = ratings
i wasnt saying its absolute
some people play amazing at times but not always and their
rating might be low .....
and true someone might show up and win their first tournament
and their rating sky rocket....
i was simply referring to it as a measurement......
and i often find if i am getting better to be in the opinions of my peers
and the solidness of my games
