Re: checker world cup should be exciting
This would be a great boost for Checkers, preferably with sponsorship and prize money!
I would like to see no restriction of how many events count for points. This would encourage
participation. The Winner of the World Cup would then maybe get a seat at the WCDF Qualifier?
It would be interesting to see what tournaments are on the circuit if the World Cup happens!

Re: checker world cup should be exciting
George,
This was discussed in Louisville, General Assembly meeting. The Ukranian proposal spoke of:
***
Include in the World Cup the following competitions: English Open, British Open, N.Irish Open, Welsh Open, Czech Open, German Open, Irish Open - (those which were already in this year), and the open championships of Italy, Denmark and Ukraine (if held as open tournaments). Also the open championships of Barbados, United States and possibly in Africa and Turkmenistan, if it will agreed with their national federations.
***
I think it will look basically like the European Cup (most events are clustered here) with a couple additional events thrown in, and a bigger-sounding title. There are still details to work out. Yes, it was a late addition to have the winner generally get a seat at the World Qualifier.
The previous European Cup concept was to be low cost to WCDF by using existing tournament schedule. Of course, we would welcome anyone who wishes to add a level of sponsorship/prize money!

Re: checker world cup should be exciting
need new ideas this is the right way forward.people just concentrate on Wq.
I think england would be a good place to host it or even canada,. reason i say this it would boost checkers in those countries where players seem to be lacking.

Re: checker world cup should be exciting
Hmmmm....The World Cup is not a separate tournament. People compete is usual Calendar of Events, which now expands a bit beyond Europe. A season-long point race is tabulated based on order of finish at each scoring event (which tend to be National tournaments for various countries, and preferably these federations hosting these events will affiliate to WCDF). The overall point earner (top overall & also top woman) is the one who wins a seat at the World Qualifier/Woman's Championship.

The 2015 World Qualifier & Woman's World Championship will be played in Wales on September 21-25 (25th reserved in case of playoffs), which will follow the Welsh Open on 19th and 20th at the same Knighton venue. Referee is John Reade with Ian Caws. WCDF-affiliated associations may nominate 2 men, 2 women and 2 youth. Wales may nominate 3 of each.
John Reade suggests Manchester as a good airport with a direct train to Knighton. Lindus Edwards suggests to book as early as possible at the Knighton Hotel or at the Horse and Jockey Inn across the road. Both establishments provide quality rooms and food. Some relevant links:

The following info is directly from the Knighton Hotel, where the tournament will be played: We can offer £85 for single occupancy and £95 for Double/Twin occupancy. These rates are Bed and Breakfast and we would require a non-refundable deposit of £30 per room per night to secure your reservation. Currently we do have availability for 19 September to 26 September 2015, however, this is limited on Monday 21 and Friday 25 September 2015.

Re: checker world cup should be exciting
There are 9 stages in this year's World Cup as shown at http://www.wcdf.net/events.htm The list of events a few posts back is not up-to-date and accurate. (Some countries didn't consent to participating & affiliating, for example.) Perhaps the list of participating countries will be different next year (plus there are some date conflicts this year that would be nice to see sorted out for next year) -- we will see how it goes. As for prizes ...the original concept from UDF did not have a clear system for cash prizes. The positive side it that it is easier to implement the concept to get it running using pre-existing events with minimal cost structure. There will be things like diploma awards (and winner getting a seat at the qualifier). Of course, anyone wanting to donate to a World Cup Prize fund is more than welcome!
