Very pity and great loss ... one more friend joined majority and Kingdom of Piece.

My deep sympathy to Dr. Shuffett relatives, friends and everyone who knew him. He was very good player and great gentleman. His contribution to game over 60 (?) years was tremendous. "The Tinsley Way" book is still my Checkers Handbook #1.

Here are my first two games with him (there were much more ahead) we played in 1998 GA State, Calhoun, May 29-31. In the second game my recording was stopped at the time where database still shows a draw and some error was done late.

G0157. Round 2, G1. A. Moiseyev vs R. Shuffett Opening: 10-15 21-17 11-16

10-15 21-17 11-16 17-13 16-20 22-18 15-22 25-18 8-11 29-25 4-8 24-19 11-16 26-22 7-10 28-24 3-7 31-26 8-11 25-21 9-14 18-9 5-14 22-17 11-15 26-22 7-11 Red Wins

G0158. Round 2, G2. R. Shuffett vs A. Moiseyev Opening: 10-15 21-17 11-16

What do you like about checkers?: I enjoy learning more and more as i go. despite its alleged simplicity the game is incredibly complex and rewarding.

I'm posting this exactly the way I received the email...

chantal falavel Apr 7 (3 days ago)

Mr. Smith:
Would you post this for Anthony Bishop:
Thank you!

"I too am sorry to hear of the death of Dr. Shuffett. Checkers has lost one of its greatest promoters. I have heard that the tackiest thing in the world was the decorations of Elvis Presley's home in Memphis. However, I doubt if even that compares to the tackiness of Alex Moiseyev's posting of two games he won from Dr. Shuffett. If he wanted to honor Dr. Shuffett he could have included two games that were draws. Dr. Shuffett could have learned how to be a better checker player from Mr. Moseyev; Mr. Moseyev could have learned how to be a better person from Dr. Shuffett. A good person is a higher honor than a good checker player any day."

Hi, Anthony !

it was a sad news and great loss for me to hear about Dr. Shuffett loss. I really didn't care of results of games I posted here, but what was most important for me - these are my first games against him. We played many games since them in many tournaments. There were a lot of draws, but those ones were first and thats why they are more important for me than any other.

These games have historical value and remind me first time I met him.

My post was memorable. In the past several years I lost a lot of my checkers friends, and I am trying to remember all and each of them and pass my memory to young players.

Regards,

Alex Moiseyev

I spoke tonight with Anthony over the phone and he asked me - if there are better games where Dr. Shuffett played with me. I've done some research in my files and here (see below) are two more interesting games where you can see his real strength. In the 2nd game I only won by coin (!) because noone (including Referee D. Brattin) wanted to judge and we both (me and Dr. Shuffett) agreed to use coin ! Kind of unique case in my practice.

It will be also important to mention that first game we played in 2006 when I hold a title of World Champion and 2nd games we played in the beginning of October 2003 - just one week before I played my historic match with Ron King in Cookstown, Northern Ireland.

At the end of our conversation Anthony said that his post on ACF forum wasn't "mad" and he just wanted to honor Dr. Shaffett and see better games.

Here we are !

I want to share a beautiful little video with you that Bobby Rice sent me the link. It was produced by KET which is Kentucky’s statewide public television network that provides PBS programming and educational services. This interview was filmed around Dr. Shuffett’s 91st birthday in 2013.

This gives you a more personal appreciation of our Dr. "Doc" Shuffett. No one could write this... you must view the video to see what a genuinely humble person he was. We are so fortunate to call him our friend and an ACF checker player member.
