Re: The first German?
I do not normally read the posts in this section as I invariably find them soporific. Since I found your question interesting however I shall venture a guess and say that my good friend Dennis Pawlek was the first German to play in the event to which you refer.

Re: The first German?
Good try, Lindus, but wrong.
Dennis and me thought we were the first to enter a qualification for a World Championship in Prague, but I found out we were wrong.
I will give you the answer next saturday, if no one else finds the answer.

Well Ingo, I am really surprised. I can't wait to see the correct answer.

"Who was the first German checker player to play in a World Championship qualifying event"? To play in a World Championship qualifying event in what sport Ingo? Many famed German draught players also played Chess as well as other sports.

- What do you like about checkers?: .....
Re: The first German?
The only official Qualify event in checkers before WCDF was my Eliminator Qualify 3-move match with William Docherty in 2001, England. But I don't think me or William (?) are German. So ... we have to consider only QT on Barbados and Prague.
In the past there were few play-offs in USA National, which identify the winner and World Championship cotenders, but I am not sure, if we can consider these matches as Qualify events.
Respectfully,
Alex

I am playing checkers, not chess.

Re: The first German?
No.
There were qualifying events
You have to think twice.
It is not sooo easy.
A further clue: Ron King also played in this event.
)))

Re: The first German?
You got it!!
It was a mail play qualifying event, and so far I have not found any player from Germany entering a serious checker/draughts event in english style before. The legandary homo ludens and Chess World Champion Emanuel Lasker also played checkers (he was also a top Go player in Germany and a reknown Brigde expert), but never played in a tournament, only in off-hand games and a few simultaneous events, reaching at least a draw against Newell Banks.
The first German to enter a crossbaord tournament was Mike Luhn, a 10*10 player of M
