Lyman probelm N°734

The following position was published in Lyman's problem book (problem 734) with terms white to play and win.



However the route shown in his book is faulty : 26-23 5-9 22-18 13-17 18-15 11x27 32x23 17-22(A) 25x18 8-11 20-16 11x20 18-15 which leads to the following white win position


(A) However instead of 17-22 pitch black can draw by 8-11 23-18 14x23 21x7 23-26 7-3 9-14 25-21 26-31 leading to the following draw position (white to play)



Go back to the beginning though and play 32-28 to win this position

Mr. Docherty,

That was a nice correction of published play. Assuming the correction had not been previously published, how do you think it would have fared against similar, original, unpublished, natural, game-like problems in a contest judged by problem lovers?

Please consider entering your next such correction in a future contest on this site, rather than publishing it on a forum where it won't get much feedback.

The contests are enhanced when a player of your ability participates.

I've voted a few times, when I get a chance, in your competitions, and to be asked to contribute a problem arising from my actual games is tempting...only thing is in a lot of cases after the "beautiful or key moves" the winning position is not as generally as 'clean' as a composition...

But I have a couple up my sleeve and could send these to you.
