Richard Pask: Logical Checkers, Volume 1

Post by chipschap »

The first volume of Richard Pask's new series, Logical Checkers, will be released on Saturday, March 17, at 0:02 HST, on my Checker Maven website (http://www.checkermaven.com).

This volume, subtitled "Novice," is the first of a projected five volumes, teaching checkers progressively from novice through master level. Volume 1 comprises 127 pages with 128 diagrams, covering topics such as notation, rules, basic tactics, strategy, and endgames, as well as an introductory GAYP repertoire suitable for everyday play.

The book features Mr. Pask's literate and lucid style, and will prove to be a definitive guidebook for beginning players as well as a useful review and summary for players with more experience.

Once again Mr. Pask offers us his work free of charge. No one need miss out.

Down the line, at the end of the series, we may again offer an omnibus print and electronic edition.

And for the second week in a row I thank Mr. Pask for the privilege of editing and presenting his work.

We are working on a trade paperback edition of this book, to be called "Checkers for the Novice." Hopefully this will fill the need for a persistently in-print modern beginner's book. It is taking some time, but I'm shooting for summer 2018. It will be perhaps 160 pages and sell for something like $7 (just an estimate). I'll announce it here in due course.

Count me in. I am not at Novice level yet (getting close) but every new, good checkers book is very special event and I never miss a party!

I am playing checkers, not chess.
