Re: ACF rating
Hey Rich, sorry I had missed your last post there when I saw Patrick's. I sent you a PM. I hope that I can assist with creating a way to simplify the process/timeframe.

WCDF Rating
I see that the WCDF Rating does not have information from the U.S. tourneys that I played in recently. I also noticed that the spreadsheet that is provided omitts the year the person last had data input into the system.
Will this rating ever be official? Is someone keeping track of what goes in it (which tournament results) and why would it be so hard for that to be listed too!
food for thought,
Michael

Re: WCDF Rating
Michael, no offense, but it seems your posts include negative words rather than encouraging ones (which might be better food for thought). Are you offering your service to help this?Michael Holmes wrote:I see that the WCDF Rating does not have information from the U.S. tourneys that I played in recently. Offering Help!
You have brought up a good topic! How many times have people offered to help the ACF? How many times have you personally actually helped the ACF or the WCDF?
I have helped the ACF many times and I have spent my own time and money to do so! Perhaps you did not mean to insinuate that I should not make suggestions if I do not plan on trying to be a part of the solution. I have been part of the solution many times sir.
And on this particular topic I have offered to help the ACF with the rating list and if given the responsibility I can forward that information to the WCDF and in return also help the WCDF.
Anyone that has been with the ACF for a period of time can vouch for these statements.

Re: ACF rating
That is good, Michael. I only thought you were player representative before. I wasn't aware that you had already made known that you want to help. Why is it that your offer is not being accepted?
Rich has sent me some information, and I am going to review it and try to help out with the ratings too. You seem like a nice guy, and I think your offer to help should be accepted as well.

Re: ACF rating
There is really no need to review any ratings listings until there is a clarification of the ACF ratings policies, so that all can understand what goes into determining those ratings. At present there seems to be a lot of confusion in that regard. ACF ratings policies should be uniform across the boards and they should apply to all ACF members on an equal basis. Ratings should be designed to reflect ones accomplishments in checkers; nothing more.

" Volunteer' is THE word to rmember in the ACF.......
Hello everyone:
The ACF is always looking for help in many areas. Also keep in mind that the ACF is run by a small core of volunteers who devote much of their own time to help make the ACF a better place for members. I hesistate to mention by name all those who have aided me in many areas at diffrent times during my Presidency. All who have helped can tell you the time it takes (from your free time) and the dedication required to help the ACF in varied areas. We all have our areas of expertise to be sure. I appreciate any and all help offered to me and the ACF for its betterment and growth.Headed to bed now............... Making my way tomorrow to Pa. for the tournament there and to get my copy of SIXTH from Mr. Alex:-)
Sincerely:

Re: ACF rating
To answer matthewkooshad statements:
1. That is good, Michael. I only thought you were player representative before.
Answer: I never have been player representative, however I have contributed to many projects from teaching gifted kids in middle school checkers (I noticed that King gets paid to do this and he and I talked about that wonderful opportunity that he made happen), to helping with mailing bulletins, to helping with processing the National Games in 2003 (a break through in providing all games from a USA National Checkers Tournament in a very short amount of time) in an excel spreadsheet, to processing more and more games later on to eventually providing the 57 select games from last year’s national to annotating 40 games of the 8th International and annotating many of the games in Dr. Beckwith’s fine Ohioian Book
2. I wasn't aware that you had already made known that you want to help.
Answer: On a different posting (Dr. Beckwith’s National Tournament Rule proposed addition ) I posted my offer for help today and afterwards (sometime right after noon you made a posting on there) and then on this topic (approximately 6 hours later) you made this statement about not knowing. It is possible you did not read my reply.
3. Why is it that your offer is not being accepted?
Answer: This offer was made earlier today as stated above.
And your statements
1. Rich has sent me some information, and I am going to review it and try to help out with the ratings too.
My question? Is this your first time to help an ACF project?
2. You seem like a nice guy, and I think your offer to help should be accepted as well.
My statement. Thanks for the compliment and forgive me if I seem to be standoffish; however, words are taken at face value for me so when you make statements like “Michael, no offense, but it seems your posts include negative words rather than encouraging ones (which might be better food for thought). Are you offering your service to help this?” perhaps you should know that I do help, I have offered to help, and my words are constructive and not negative!

Re: ACF rating
I'm not sure. I never keep a tangible tally list of the good things that I try to do. I am sure that you've done more than me, and it's very possible that this is the first thing I've ever offered to help with. It's also possible that nothing may actually get done coming from me toward the situation. I'm not sure how any of these answers effect what happens.Michael Holmes wrote:My question? I've only been posting in the threads regarding this, because I don't like to see people complain. I want to try to help the situation. By saying 'complain', I don't mean to imply anyone is negative, but I have of course questioned it obviously of those who I have respect and do not understand why such phrases come from them. I possibly do not understand ratings as I should (e.g. the importance of motivation that has been noted by many).
P.S. I do not mean to ask questions in a malicious/snide way. Patrick do not try to waste my time please; I've attempted conversation with you in many threads before. If you desire for conversation to end between you and I, continue with such posts.

polite and to the point but its still there
however i was just making a joke
its all in how you say things......
and malicous isnt the only available synonym its just the one u chose
"snide" can also mean sarcastic
this was a point in my joke and i knew i would get that response from you
so now i use it to make my point
its also in how people interpret things
try not to talk down to people ........
and as others feel you dont attempt conversation
you talk with people ........not down to them
think of my reaction to your posts?
genes
michaels?
can i be wrong?
i have been trying to get along with you but maybe this is something to think about or maybe i am outright wrong either way its in your hands

Phrases are made so issues will be addressed. Notice I said my statements were constructive and not negative. There are obviously tactful ways to say something and so far I have not used any offensive phrases or negative phrases. When a person talks about a subject that needs to be addressed it should not be regarded as negative. You seem to be educated and if you are you already know this; and perhaps just have not thought about it. The best thing to do is just not talk about an individual's post from a "feeling" viewpoint.
