WCDF events 2026 in Scotland

Today December 1, we reached deadline for bids for WCDF. Yet we have one intentional bid but more details are coming and will be reviewed, discussed and finalized by the end of 2025 year.

Here is what we have so far:

1) SDA (Scottish Draughts Association), IDA (Irish Draughts Association) and EDA (English Draughts Association) submitted combine bid for WCDF events and British Open.

2) City - Stonehaven, Scotland

3) Dates:

British Open - September 9-14, Wednesday - Sunday

WCDF 3-moves WQT,
WCDF 3-moves Woman World Championship,
WCDF GAYP Youth World Championship

September 14-17, Monday - Thursday

World Blitz, September 18

Place to play - The Town Hall
36 Allardice Street, Stonehaven, AB39 2BU
Stonehaven, Scotland

Main Referee will be local and name provided later.

All details regarding hotel and transportation also will be finalized in the next couple weeks.

I would strongly recommend all federations and national bodies, start working on nominations and visa processing without waiting last minute to July or August. We also will have deadlines for federation:

mid May - provide us number of attendees in each category

mid June - provide us names of players.

At Stonehaven, Scotland, the Centenary British Open results are in! Congratulations to Crispin Odhiambo of Kenya for 1st place. Congratulations to Lukhanyo Dyanibokwe of South Africa for 2nd Place, and congratulations to Shane McCosker of Ireland for 3rd Place.

At the WCDF World Qualifying Tournament in Stonehaven, Alexander Moiseyev of the USA takes the lead after the first day of competition with sole possession of 1st Place. Mr. Alex beat fellow American Richard Beckwith in the first round of two games, and then beat fellow American Eric Strange in the second round of two games. Mr. Alex leads the leaderboard with 8 points, with two points for a win, and one point for a draw. Contestants of the same country play each other in the early rounds whenever possible. Evidently, Crispin Odhiambo of Kenya is mysteriously missing from the lineup of the WQT. I have no insider information....

Congratulations to Lubabalo Kondlo of South Africa for 1st Place in the WCDF World Qualifying Tournament. Lubabalo Kondlo is the former GAYP World Champion (2018--2022), and was featured in the movie King Me (with Ron King). Lubabalo Kondlo earns the right to challenge 3-Move World Champion Sergio Scarpetta of Italy in a World Championship Match. Congratulations to William Docherty of Scotland with an incredibly strong 2nd Place finish in his home country. Congratulations to Alexander Moiseyev of USA for 3rd Place. Alexander Moiseyev was the 3-Move World Champion (2003--2013), and is also in the movie King Me. Mr. Alex shows he's still got it!

Congratulations to Tetiana Zaitseva of Ukraine for 1st Place and reclaiming her Crown as the 3-Move Woman's World Champion. Tetiana Zaitseva is also a former GAYP Woman's World Champion, and a former GAYP Youth World Champion. Congratulations to Patricia Breen of Ireland for 2nd Place. Patricia Breen defeated the legendary first Woman's World Champion Joan Caws of the Isle of Wight in a WCM in 1993 to become Woman's World Champion. Following up on her GAYP 3rd Place in 2025, Congratulations to Wynnell Neverson of Barbados in another Bronze Medal performance for 3rd Place in 2026.

Congratulations to Lubabalo Kondlo of South Africa for 3rd Place, adding to his classical-time Victory in the WCDF 2026 3-Move World Qualifying Tournament.

The GAYP World Championship Match with Champion Matteo Bernini vs Challenger Alexander Moiseyev is scheduled to take place November 8-13, 2026 in Foggia, Italy.


The 3-Move World Championship Match with Champion Sergio Scarpetta vs Challenger Lubabalo Kondlo is at a date and place TBD (To Be Determined).

I mentioned on facebook checkers page that the organization was all round exemplary, and Danny, Graham, Audrey, Angela, Sean, Dennis and Stefano should receive a standing ovation for what was the Checker Highlight of 2026 as far as organization, personal investment (energy, time, cash even!!), and the highest calibre of participants seen in a long time under 1 roof.

Stefano, the Italian referee has even been as fast as lightning and all of the PDN files for British and all WQT events are available only 1 day after completion of the events!!!! AMAZING feat and thank you Stefano.

I hope that our very good friend Jim Loy will have all the support he requires to be able to get the 2026 US Nats PDN out soon ; the checker world is looking forward to receiving you professional (as is always the case) work.
