I was watching an HBO special the other day that was called The Checker King, which had coverage of the 03 nationals I believe.

Media coming to Medina........................

Post by Alan Millhone »

Hello everyone:

The ACF has had two inquirys from newspapers in the Medina area. Dr. Beckwith has been taking care of their questions, etc. The professional image we as Checker players present to the public is most important. What the media sees and reports to the public can make or break any organization. A couple of years ago it was discussed by myself and Mr. Al Darrow about dressing professionally. Many were critical that the issue of how one dresses was even discussed. The adults have to project a positive example to the younger players and to the watching public. Use of good equipment ,etc. also sets a proper example.

I am pretty well packed and my Daughter and my Grandson's Solomon and Forest (7& 9) will accompany her. Solomon will play in the "Arthur Niederhoffer" Youth Tournament this week-end and Forest might enter for the first time as well:-)

Looking forward to seeing old friends this coming week and hopefully many new faces. See you in Medina!!

Sincerely:
Alan Millhone, President
American Checker Federation
District 6 Champion

The 2006 USA Nationals have started!

Post by Michael Holmes »

Well, Ryan Pronk is in the lead with an extra 2 points after four rounds. Corey is in a close second and the other two are not in their regular sharp form but I expect to see a nice recovery tomorrow to make the Youth tournament a little bit closer.

In the younger age group Trey has the lead with Holmes trailing by 3 or 4 points.

I thought Pronk was going to play in the Masters this year???

I understand his decision to play Majors - Playing back to back tournaments isn't easy.

What were the full final results in Youth Nats?

Any updates after day 1 of Nats?

Full Youth National Results

Post by Ryan Pronk »

Hello,

Here are the results of the 2006 Youth National Tournament.

Top Division:
1. Ryan Pronk 25 points $300
2. Corey Modich 15 points $200
3. Paul Bryan 13 points $100
4. Josh Armstrong 11 points $50

Lower Division:
1. Trey Stanley 26 points $65
2. Alex Holmes 24 points $40
3. Solomon Reece 19 points $30
4. Forest Reece 10 points $20
5. Erin Stanley 9 points $20

Overall, there was very strong competition. I will attempt to give a full recap (at least of my experience) later on. Corey and I are both endorsed to play in the next World Youth Tournament. I know it is our intent to bring the World Youth Title back to the USA.

Very interesting ! Thanks Matthew. The most interesting fact I learned from this newspaper - USA population should hit 300 million record this fall, 2006 ! They also estimated - [u]"it's a good bet the milestone baby
I am playing checkers, not chess.
