New WCC Opening Book + "Learning" file

Post by EdTrice »

I just downloaded the version of WCC on Gil's website http://www.worldchampionshipcheckers.com and I realized two of its files are terribly out of date.

I am not sure if anyone has or uses that freeware program, but I have a much better opening book for it, plus the actual "learned" data that was supposed to be put into the BOOK.LRN file. Gil built the installer before I actually gave this file to him, so the file that you download has no learned data in it!

If anyone wants the new files, reply to this here, and I will tell you how to download them.

The same books are used by all programs. I would use the books I have as they are the most recent, so I would say they are out of date also, but not nearly as out of date as the WCC Gold books.

Where is the download information? I don't think it's against the forum rules to post information on where to download files unless they are illegal ones. I would like to check the files out sometime. Image

Dear Mr Trice,
I too would appreciate knowing how to download the files to which you refer. I bought WCC Gold some years back and also use the free version regularly. Love the graphics and the playing strength :)
Best wishes,
Lindus Edwards.

Hi Michael,

Actually I mispoke. What I meant was:

The format of the opening books used by WCC can be read by all versions of the program.

By this I mean, if you have WCC Plantinum, and copy your books to WCC Gold's directory,WCC Gold can read them.

Gil stopped updating the WCC Gold books in 2001, but I continued updating the Platinum series books through this year.

I sent Gil updates but in order for him to distribute them, he would have to build a new installer, something which did not interest him.

So, it makes sense now to release the latest versions of the books.

WCC Gold will be most improved, since its books are the most outdated.

They are not illegal, I am the co-author of the program.

Hello Lindus,

Some time this evening I will put up a web page and post the link here. And if anyone can send me games where WCC Gold Plus loses, be it to human or another program, feel free to send me the game, and I will post more book updates.
