Many people buy old checkerboards to put in their homes to give them that old country look. I think that this is one such checkerboard (Canadian)--check out Ebay item #290013804274. (Cont.)

I have a small glass victorian checkerboard, about 6" square, with maroon and clear squares, with a sort of gold glitter and mother-of-pearl pieces behind the glass. It's in a frame. I have most of the original pieces (remaining ones recreated from a 1/4" dowel).
Appraised at around $250 by one of those antique roadshow types. I seem to recall seeing one for sale for about that much at an antique store.

I also have my greatgrandfather's "roundsquare" board (brown wood background with 32 round "squares" in very dark wood sunk into it, arranged a la Lallemont. Again most of the original pieces. The other side is a backgammon board. Only one of its kind I've ever seen.
