Post by Alan Millhone »

Hello Everyone:

This morning we had opening ceremonies, a letter was read from Mr. Walker to the contestantsand the referee. 13 people were on hand and a couple stayed for the four games today.

Game one Jim Morrison began with reds after colors were chosen. Suki opened with 24-19 off Jim's 11-15 and game ended in a draw.

Game two Suki began with 11-15 and Jim played the Cross and game was drawn.

Game three Jim opened with 11-15 and Suki replied 22-17, Jim replied 9-14, and game was a Souter and drawn.

Game four Suki opened 11-15 and Jim replied 22-18 and game ended in a draw.

Play tomorrow will begin at 9 AM. Mrs. Walker is keeping us well fed :-) Plenty of coffee and hot tea always on hand.

I will post more results at days end tomorrow, stay tuned !!

Sincerely:
Alan Millhone, President

Tommy, the word "Cross" remind me one interesting story. In the US GAYP National 1999 in Niagara Falls, my first GAYP National which I won, I played Cross in the most of my games where I had white pieces. The reason was simple and obvious - I tried to play safely and defensively, although scored a couple fine wins over R. Hallett and M. Grimes.

Next year, 2000, when I palyed a GAYP World Championship with R. King, I expected him to be well prepared in Cross. At this point I didn't play Cross at all !

Before last 24th match game started, where I had whites, Jim Morrison told me: "play Cross". I was laughing and asked: "Why ?" Jim immediately replied : "For variety !!!"
