NYC 2005 BOOK IS IN MY HANDS :-)

Post by Alan Millhone »

Hello Checker /Draughts Players:

In my today's mail came a nice new addition to Checker literature.

Mr. Jim Loy has put together and published a wonderfully done 36 page booklet of the games from the 2005 Open New York & District Two Tournament that was held March 18th.- 20th., 2005. The book is annotated and type set by our ACF Bulletin Editor Mr. Jim Loy with help on annotations by Mr. Jan Bulstra. The book (mail ID size) is well annotated with colorful comments and lines of play, etc. and numerous diagrams all thru the book. Two pages are devoted to tourney photos to memorialize this event so capably put on by Mr. Francesco La Rocca. An ad will be appearing in our next ACF Bulletin asking $10.00 shipped in the USA and $12.00 outside the USA. Mr. Loy is handling all printing, shipping, etc. and payments will go to him. I want to thank him for taking the time to put our this fine little publication. The book contains games of Mr. Alex, Mr. Bruch, Mr. Webster, Dr. Beckwith, etc.

Sincerely:
Alan Millhone, President

 This is a very nicely done work--a must for every checker players library. I like the pictures because now I know who certain people are that we hear a lot about all the time--and also how handsome checker players really are. "Inky"

Thank you. The booklet turned out well. I wanted to experiment with publishing on demand. This means that I print this book (actual size, on my laser printer) as the orders come in, anywhere from one copy to about ten copies at a time. I think I can do this cheaper than a copy service charges, when I print small quantities. A copy service has me beat when it comes to larger quantities. So I don't have to commit to the risk of a large quantity. Another reason that I took on this project was to show the organizers of tournaments (in particular, the World Qualifiers, English/British Ty., Canadian Ty. ... that they should be publishing all or most of their games (annotated, preferably). While no one is going to make much money on this, I'm sure there are players ready to buy these games. If you need help annotating or publishing, maybe I can help. Unfortunately, I am too busy to annotate very many tournaments for a while. I may try this publish on demand process on back issues of the I-D booklets of years past, as I have several of them on my computer.
