GoldToken Checker variants
Using a different colour for the border of each variant would be just fine. I believe that is pretty much your general system.
I am delighted that you are thinking of adding more Checker variants, especially Italian Checkers. If the rules are correct, you will have one up on the competition and I shall certainly be interested in playing in the ladder for it. This is really good news.

Roberto,
Which rules have they got wrong for the Italian game?

Italian Checkers
These are the correct jumping rules: (1) A man can never jump a king. (2) Always jump the maximum number of pieces. (3) Jump the maximum number of pieces with a king, if possible. (4) When jumping with a king, take the maximum number of kings. (5) Jump the kings the earliest possible in the capturing sequence, king-then-man rather than man-then-king.
These rules are listed in their descending order of precedence. IYT enforces 1 and 2. It does not enforce 3, 4 and 5. I have been trying to persuade them to correct this error. The omitted rules are important. A good friend of mine plays Italian Checkers real-time at VOG. He says the better Italian players use the omitted rules a lot. You have to be aware of them when you play the authentic game.

Kurnik now has Italian Draughts. The rules are all correct.

And Kurnik is turn-based or real-time?

Re: It's Your Turn
In December, my opponent ballotted this opening: 11-16 21-17 10-14, which is a published loss. Probably a bug in the program.

Jim Loy (whom I play often in IYT) says:

I have gotten 9-14 22-18 12-16 several times in the last two months.

Re: It's Your Turn
Although these have not happened to me, while browsing through other peoples' tournament games on IYT.com, I found games beginning with:
9-14 21-17 14-21 (RW)
9-13 22-18 5-9 (WW)
As suggested in an earlier posting on this subject, I suspect that not all openings are equally probable, and some legal ones may never happen at all.
Besides those bugs, let me repeat what I have been compaining about for four or five years:
1. The PDN version of every three-move (pro) game is missing the first three moves.
2. In the info fields at the top of every PDN game, Black is called "White" and White is called "Black." This has caused problems with my published annotations, off and on for years, and is very amateurish of IYT.com.
3. In PDN games, ladder games are called "casual games," even though "ladder game" would probably be easy to do.
4. IYT.com ignores these and other complaints.

Some winning opening are very tough and sometimes from many promising attacks only one really leads to win. And sometimes the losing side has a good scope of various defences which is hard to beat on the first occasion cross aboard.
I can only repeat a well known thing: knoweldges are power !

Re: It's Your Turn
about variantions and boards.......to each his own.....
but i like green and white and red and white pieces as far as that goes
but since its turn based at gold token.....couldnt each player be able to select his own preferred color scheme...i believe this is done at some turn based websites........
another random problem from itsyourturn.com
ladder games .....
i will have them time out 8 hours from my time being up
or 1 hour before its up......
and they will not fix it.............
i also hate the non members ....moving 15 moves a day or whatever it is....i understand there are bandwidth costs but gosh how cheap can we get
ive never balloted a crazy opening that would be interesting though

I don't think IYT does it for bandwidth reasons, but rather to force players to join. GoldToken does not place that type of limit on our guest players for fear it would take the fun out of playing. GoldToken guests are allowed 15 games and can play all day long if they desire. Instead, GoldToken memberships are feature intensive, so players will join for the extras rather than being forced to join to avoid severe limitations. It is a different philosophy, but it works for us.
We have just installed the first run of Russian, International, Brazilian, Canadian and Pool checkers on GoldToken's beta site for testing! But I need testers who know the game to ensure the games are played according to the rules. If anyone here is interested, please message me at GoldToken (I am known as Badger there) and I will gladly set up an account for you on the beta site.

Turkish Checkers
Another variant that might be of interest to some people at GoldToken is Turkish Checkers. BrainKing has this game installed on their site. I have played it there.
The men move straight forward and sideways and the king moves like a rook, which makes the game perhaps unique among Checker variants. It is played throughout the Middle East, including Israel. A couple of my Checker books that compare different variants say that it is an excellent game. I think they may be right.
I would gladly play Turkish Checkers at GoldToken if it were installed there. I would be glad to beta-test it, too.
