Will Goldtoken be making a live-based playing room for the ACF also? Or will it be strictly turn-based?

It does. But it might take an hour or two as we have a large number of players signing up.

It is wonderful news! The players at GoldToken are very excited too. I would love to share the details, but have agreed to keep the suprizes under wraps until they are released. Regardless, you will be most pleased!

Mary, congratulations ! Well done.

I wish our site a bright future. You are on the top of my list of heroes. "ACF playing room" was a long time dream and now with all your signficant efforts it's became a reality.

See you soon ! :occasion5:

What good will it be if it's turn-based only? No one wants to play silly mail play. It's for programs.

First of all, the statement is factually incorrect since many of us here actually prefer turn-based play. You do not want to play by mail or e-mail or turn-based. I and many others here do.

Second, Gold Token strictly bans the use of programs. Now, there are people like me who might use programs if not explicitly prohibited, but will abide by the explicitly stated rules (and Gold Token explicitly states them). Finally, to some of us the attraction of Gold Token is the number of variants it is in the process of implementing.

Finally, if you want a faster speed, there is nothing to prevent you from agreeing to play quickly. Perhaps in the future Gold Token can do what Atlantic Chess has done, which is allow a time limit of minutes when two players agree to it. But even now, you and your opponent in a friendly match could reach such an agreement, and GT lists the time for each move.

The place still needs some work, but it's growing on me. And the management has given every indication of being responsive to user comments, which IYT has not always done.

Mary,

how you control (if any) usage of programs on your site ? Or this is just a "Code of Ethics" which everyone has to sign when register ?

Turn-based v. real-time

Post by Roberto L Ernest »

I think that, on the Internet, most real-time games are played fast, a form of speed Checkers. With turn-based, on the other hand, you have the option of taking your time and trying to come up with the best move. It can be a more serious form of the game.
