Greetings Mr. Checkers,

A definite Checker Book Dealer of the past that has made a lasting difference on our game today would have to be Tom Wiswell....on so many levels. Certainly as a player, promoter, champion, publisher...and also as a book dealer.
I bought my first book from him in 1986, and as a beginner, I asked him to offer me some advice.....which he did. I also was a return customer, making several purchases over the next few years ...he would always write a full page letter back to me . I never met him, I got his address from Earl Hangen, and from there began to build my library)....and he would always throw in some kind of freebie.....

Regards,
Jay

 Jay that is an excellent partial answer--my dear friend and mentor Tom Wiswell. There were many others that should be recognized for their work in this area, so please share a few of their names with us. "Mr. Checkers"

I also purchased many books from Tom Wiswell, also I. W. Peterson, Howard Peck and Harry Ruff. I also bought Checker supplies such as 3 move cards and boards and checkers form Starr Specialty and Clayton Beebe. This sure brings back great memories.

 Over the years many book dealers have come and gone. Here are a few more that some of us may remember--A. Buschke, R.J. Williams, James Keene, the University Book Store, Wendemuth, Lyons, Kear, Goodwin etc. etc. If one were to browse through their checker library I am sure that you could add many more to this fine list of gentlemen that have made a difference in the game of checkers. "Mr. Checkers"
