[u:e1e7f6ea14][b:e1e7f6ea14]HAPPY 80th BIRTHDAY “GRANDMASTER” CON Mc CARRICK[/b:e1e7f6ea14][/u:e1e7f6ea14]
I first met Con in the early 1970’s in London where he was captain of the Kilburn Draughts team which swept the London League championship and other competitions from 1971 to 1973. The Kilburn team was comprized of four Irishmen, Con Mc Carrick, Pat Molloy, Jim O’ Dea, and Jim O’ Brien along with John Mizzi from Malta and Arthur Emilson the sole English man in the team.
Con, who is a native of Loughgill, Tubbercurry Co Sligo, was a former sports correspondent for the Sligo Champion newspaper and also for the Irish Post during his time in England. After leaving Sligo he worked in Dublin with Aer Lingus for a period before moving to London. With a natural flair for Draughts, Con learned much from playing with Bill Guerin, one of Ireland’s prominent players during the 1950’s and 60’s. As well as leading the Kilburn team to victory Con was individually successful in winning the London Kaiser Cup in Freestyle play. After returning to Ireland in the late 1970’s he won the Northern Ireland Open in 1979 and was runner up to Pat Mc Carthy , as home based Champion in the 1981 Irish Open. He led the Irish Team to victory (as Captain) in the Home Internationals in 1980 and has represented Great Britain and Ireland in several of the International matches v USA.
Although recently awarded an International Master title by the WCDF, I’m sure many readers will regard him as “Grandmaster Con” and wish to join in congratulating him on reaching his 80th birthday on 1st May this year.

Thank you Pal and Lindus.
I don't think Con has an internet link and I will convey your good wishes to him.
