The following game is presented for the benefit of young players who hope to follow in the footsteps of the great player William Docherty. The game was played in the English Open Youth Championship in 1981 at Bristol, England and is demonstrative of the ability possessed by two youngsters - then aged about fourteen.

Suffice it to say that William would not lose such a game these days! I was proud to have assisted the winner in his training over several years.

William Docherty is Scottish - not Welsh
Not at all a bad game by two so very young. It is very much hoped that William will play you one day for the world three-move championship.

Yes, I need a revange from 2001 Eliminator match ! William did pretty well in Scottland QT 2006 and was close, but low practice erased his hopes.

I wish I have students of his calibre some day. I am not a good face-to-face teacher but maybe Sixth will do this work for me.

Hi Lindus and Alex

First of all I would like to congratulate you for digging that one up!!
It's a bit like looking at old photos of oneself and asking' did I really wear those clothes and have that haircut!!
Normally I have all of my games recorded stating from the 80's,that is to say when I was around 13 or 14, and have hundreds of very interesting practice games against John McGill who was my instructer then.
and even at that young age I was able to take wins from him although
as one may expect at that time he had the plus score.
I could not find that game though and I have the distinct memory of leaving the ty . with regrets of not playing at my best level.

After our eliminator match Alex and I had a little drink in the hotel ,which almost led to us missing our taxi to the airport and train station. I recall
as alex will too playing a blindfold gayp game on the train ,Souter game it was but it was as tough on the brain as a hammer hitting our heads due to our excessive night session before. I remember the game ;;do you Alex? I give you a clue ,you had blacks ,I won , then we snored ourselves to sleep!

WOW ! Yes, of course I asked him.

Immediately after our conversation on Kurnik, I sent an email to you and John. John replied that he has your address and he will send you a copy of "SIXTH" . This was about 2 weeks ago.

John, if you read this post - can you clarify this for us ? William, did you change your address recently ?

MM ;two weeks does seem a bit long even by British or French postal standards!! I have not heard of any strikes on either side of the french Channel . John does have my actual adress as I still get the news sheet that he sends out regularly.
perhaps he has forgotten to send it off.
John if you read this post could you keep us up to date?

yes you were correct , lack of ty. play probably was the cause of me not winning the WTQT in Stonehaven, but this gaves me an idea,,, I will bring out a book called 'How to play top level checkers with 1 hour practice a year'!! Now that would reallly sell LOL

Hi, William !

I have a good news for you Yesterday after I read your post here, I sent email to John asking about the status of delivery. John apologize that he ... forget to send it to you !!!

He wrote me, that he already putted one in post today, Saturday, and you have to receive it in the next few days.

These are certainly good news which indicate that nothing was missing in the mail.

Please, let me know when you get your copy of Sixth. You can post it here, so forum visitors will be updated with this saga
